Re bolded: I'm going to throw another idea into the pan to be fried:

I know a couple or three *Canadian* trained & certified nurses. Who are working random nightshifts through agencies, and cashiering at Walmart or the like, or waitressing, during the day to make ends meet while they try to get a permanent job.

In my province, there was a shortage of qualified nurses a few years back; immigrant nurses were fast-tracked and given every aid possible to register. Fast forward a few years, & they have mostly gone West/Gone Home. And during that time, the province did a huge drive to convince locals to sign-up to study as nurses; & apparently that worked too well.

A close family friend who is sick of intermittent & random nursing shifts with no stable job in sight is shelling out more $$$ to retrain as a mechanic.

TL: DR: don't shoot the messengers, eh ?

it might be better all round if you read the answers that people have been giving you.
Unfortunately (or fortunately whichever way you want to look at it) I don't actually have the luxury of having ample amounts of time to sit on a computer and digest every thread on this forum. Maybe I should take a 14 month career break and I could catch up in the merry-go-round that is 'nursing in Ontario'....
if I was looking at moving my family including young children to another country, I would spend as much time as possible looking for information - and not rely on a forum to do the footwork for me
The facts are, I have not found the answer(s) / official clarification I was looking for. And its obvious no one on here knows. Re-reading this thread will do nothing to change that. you will not find a definite answer on here because each case so far has been different, so people can only share their experience. No one on here has applied through NNAS. If you are looking for OFFICIAL clarification, you are in the wrong place. You are probably best to go right to the official sites - I am aware that it may take a little time, but this time might just be time well spent rather than relying an Internet forum for information. Always remember that Canadian nurses are general trained - as in paeds, maternity and psych - RN as well as RPN so there is no guarantee that having a diploma or degree in adult nursing will result in being able to sit the exam if there are not enough hours for these subjects - NOONE KNOWS EXACTLY HOW NNAS ARE GOING TO ASSESS TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS,
I fully understand all cases are different. But the lack of uk trained nurses now working as RPN's is concerning. But, maybe there are hundreds and they are out working and getting on with their new lives in Canada and not on an internet forum. I am working as an RPN and I find time to come on here an try to support other going through the process of working with the red tape involved in becoming registered in Canada, but I get frustrated answering the same question over and over again when there is a search facility available

Why would anyone want to work as a PSW? Eh, to get out the house.. to keep some element of workplace skills up.. Enhance the CV...To bring in some sort of wage.. To give their new country a go and fight the impending pessimism...you show great understanding of the nursing profession here - not sure how this would impress on any resume
Good luck in your own registration pursuit.
Lets hope your diploma education and skills are recognised and you don't have to give up your career..
Lets hope you get back to work asap and you wont have to put up with having to sit on this forum as much, inconveniently answering uninformed questions from people like me...

Now. Google......PSW Ontario... [ENTER]

Thank you, I think I will heed your excellent advice. I just spent a pleasant evening watching my son play an excellent game of soccer which did take away the rather unpleasant taste in my mouth that his post left.

I suppose Stinkypup I have been a bit lazy for 18 months, you know with helping my 8 yr old settle into school after a big move overseas, looking after my three year old and then having a baby. Maybe I should wean the baby (?) so I can put all three of my children into daycare and after school clubs so I can pay to go out to work in a lesser role which will do nothing for my "resume" just so that I can say I work, because of course as everyone knows mothers don't work at all... I guess it wouldn't hurt if all those friends and contacts I've made while out socialising with the children weren't around either- just so that I had a job to you know get me out of the house.

Like I said I'm just a bit lazy and bored really....

Mind you on a realistic note and as you well know, it's impossible to be bored with a retriever puppy around the place

I know TiryTory , I was going to comment on your idleness but decided against it-,maybe we should get Roberto over to walk the pup and do a bit of baby sitting- he might be good at it ..... Hmmm perhaps not!!!!
I love the way that you are going to get less bored with a puppy rather than the baby btw- I love your priorities! no tell me, who would you rather come and visit you... MIL or Roberto?? See, every cloud has a silver lining!

Caleo & Tirytory: I seem to have broken the Karma button.

Kudos.

And Stinkypup too. (We cross-posted, I think)

Ha ha

The puppy was way more work than any of the kids- still so cute but he leaves his toys around, is constantly hungry and needs tons of attention and exercise. But he's very protective and when a dog was jumping up at the baby the other day he kept chasing the dog off and getting in between- how sweet is that?

Soccer- oops it is easier to just say the correct "Canadian term"'first time to avoid all those quizzical looks that I get. With the welsh accent- there's already a barrier

I would think that you sitting on your lazy butt at home with nothing to do all day would be more of a barrier than a Welsh accent 😱😂

Hmm I don't know, I have to say us Brits have problems comprehending the people from " The valleys" gawd knows what Canadians make of her- they probably pretend that they know what the hell she is talking about, saying " have a great day" whilst walking off scratching their Canadian heads in absolute puzzlement!

Just kidding TT

I'm not on here to make 'enemies'. That's pathetic and for sad computer geeks.
I will admit that I have got slightly frustrated with the lack of simple answers I have been seeking. (I will re-read the thread to see if it has been missed though)I will also admit I have been guarded with your posts in the past. It's due to what I feel is your negative attitude and that you portray a doom and gloom picture of nursing. I understand its been a drawn out process for you. But as had been rightly said, everyone's case is different. All with different qualifications and skills than yourself. All will not be living in a small town either so job prospects will be different. Some (like Caleo and my wife, will be willing to 'downgrade' temporarily, take a step back to take a couple forward and work in a lower pay scale such as PSW)

I find your posts not only slightly pessimistic (understandable) but conflicting. You say you want to continue in nursing, and "apply as a RN... But that's too much for me I think".... "I was a hospital nurse, that's where I want to be.... Although I don't have the heart for it now"....

You started a thread about new 'work ideas' for you. Within that thread it was stated by someone :

"Seems to me you know the problem and the solution, if you had moved from Cardiff to Dolgellau, you would have had the same problem except you could have continued to work as a nurse. You either have to move again to get greater options in other fields, or invest in the education that will permit you to continue as a nurse. Even if this means you have to move provinces to do so. This thread is so similar to the j smith thread that it is uncanny. You either accept your lot, or, move and get educated. No body is going to hand it to you on a plate".

You could re apply with NNAS and see if they process your credentials any faster?. You could sit the PSW course and work casual shifts around your kids / family life?. You could do a online/home study course in a health related field?

Anyway, must go. After another bad nights sleep with our two kids, I have to walk my oldest to school and the youngest to nursery. Then I have to paint the house before going to do a nightshift. Busy busy.

Highlighting the text in bold is the only way I know how to focus on a specific part of the post. I do not know how to multi-quote so that's my reason for doing so.
Not intending to be 'patronising'.
