I can also guess you've spent very little (if any) time there

You really think there's anywhere in Canada outside of Nanavut that isn't Americanised??

To be fair, politically speaking Alberta is a lot closer to the mainstream of US politics than the mainstream of Canadian politics.

Culturaly though? Seems a funny comment, I would be hard pushed to tell the difference between Ontario and the US anyway....the license plates are different and the money look funny, thats about it.

Oh I know. It's all a matter of degrees. Ironic though that Ontario (and especially Toronto) is considered among Canadians as be the most "Americanised" and yet all the stereotypes of Canadians mostly come from here! "Oot and aboot" and "eh?" are more common here than in the West. Also, UK English is favoured here more than in the West.

Suprised no one has talked about the East Coast though. Loved it there. Small, and rather on the poor side, but the people are fab (and the accents are scrumptious!)

Odd, Ive been here a while and I always thought that was a Maritime thing, hardly ever heard it in Ontario except from misplaced / displaced maritimers, and Ontarians (and brits) takling the pi$$ out of misplaced / displaced maritimers.

One thing I learnt here in Toronto: Licence Plates. With a 'C'. The US spells it with a 'S'. Yeah that's right!

Culturally, Canada tends to look south rather than east or west. Ontario has more in common (just) with New York and the Eastern US sea board than it does with, let's say, Nunavut, or Quebec, or New Foundland. Although, I would be hard pressed to find a monumental difference between BC and Ontario. Hmm. Funny how culture scrambles up here.

Oh god, I hope you arent another bloody grammar nazi. I'm not spell checking my posts for anyone I'm afraid, and I've been here now long enough to be unable to spell consistently in either English, Canadian or 'mercun.

According to our school board, UK English is standard in Alberta.

"Eh?" is just as common over here as the east ... although I've only ever hear done or two guys use "aboot".

So where in the west have you travelled to? Don't assume BC is like Alberta ...

My mates here are all from Toronto and area and are mad on the 'oot and aboot' and the 'eh?'. Although when I was in the east, yes they also were heavy on the 'oot and aboot' and the 'eh?'. Also, there is more than one 'oot and aboot'; some pronounce the 'T' and others don't; some have more of a up-turn at the end; others drawl it out more.

It's a weird mix I've noticed: Some Canadians are totally clueless about the rest of their own country (and know nothing about England) and others are totally clued in. I find the really young ones are more "American" (language, knowledge of Canada, etc) and don't become "Canadian" until mid-teens to early 20s. Strange.

Alberta, Manitoba and BC. BC was my favourite. Although I am not a hiking, mountain climbing kind of person, the people were fab and the scenery was breathtaking.

Toronto is more multi-cultural. The city is divided (unofficially) into 'villiages': Greek Village, Chinatown ( 3 of them), Little Italy, Little Portugal, Little India, etc. The restaurants are some of the best in North Amercia.

Jobs. There's more of them in Toronto.

They wear cowboy boots in Calgary. On purpose!

Can you tell I don't like the west?
LOL!! You have just set off my giggling again!!! Shame on you!

I have never been to Calgary but always fancied it until a friend of mine who spent 6 months living there and said that in all that time it was closed!
