Question Calgary schooling and aspergers

Hi. I've read much on here about autism and aspergers but it mostly seems to revolve around Ontario with a good report from at least one for Calgary.

Our son who's 9 has aspergers, high functioning level, and currently is in main stream classes with additional support on occasions for social interaction in class room and play time. What level of support should I expect in and around the Calgary area? and are there schools that would be better and worse in terms of this support? any advice on which schools we should try to locate next to either in Calgary or surrounding towns would be most appreciated.

Thanks
Huw

Hi Huw

Not sure if you considered Vancouver but I know there are excellent schools for autism and Aspergers, my friends son attends one and she is very happy.

Hi
Unfortunately my job offer, pending LMO, is for Calgary so initially we will be in this area.

Hi, I am new to the forum but would be very interested in matters relating to autism. My 5 year old has recently received a diagnosis of high functioning ASD (not aspergers). We are hoping to move to eastern ontario some time this year, subject to house sale going through. He has a statement in the UK and just started mainstream school. Luckily he has a one to one carer but not sure how to go about accessing help once in Canada.

Hi, and welcome to BE.

I'd suggest you look at forum member 'dbd33' and his posts about having a child with autism in Ontario, he's got plenty of experience and has written about it many times.

HTH, good luck.
