Hi there - does anyone out there know if the new bus drivers for C.T normally work 2 jobs with the guaranteed hours only being 30 hours per week and overtime available through the ranks i.e on seniority ( which is understandable as the longer you work at a place the more choice of hours o/t etc.) Was just wondering as if coming over on twp Im unsure if would be able to take on another job as the permit is for that job offer only.Any info would be appreciated on this.Thankyou - Dave and San

San & Dave,
Not sure how Calgary Transport works but i guess it's the same as here in Ontario.
I work for GO Transit.
All new hire's start as part timers (guarantee of 4 hrs per day, though most if not all get about 28-32hrs)
Then when an opening becomes available you slide into full time.
Some of the PT new drivers with us work 2 jobs, but it is hard as some of them are on report, hours change.

Check out "screwcalgarytransit.com" I had a job offer from them and decided against it as the working conditions are a lot worse than here. I want to move to Canada but not to end up hating it. Check out the post on ScrewCalgarytransit about bus driver shortage.
Good Luck

I remember Calagary Transit trying to recruit drivers from in and around Toronto a couple of years ago.
Transit in the GTA has issues, we have to remember that once out of the city, the service is terrible, the folks over here don't have a clue how to run a service.
Here is an example, Go Transit operate a new service from Guelph to Cooksville? where is cooksville? everyone asks us, the bus goes via Square One mall which people know but the Goverment would only fund a service that ended at a Go Train Station, ok thats fair enough but their is nothing there to connect with!.
If you are thinking of moving here to work in public transport, after 3 years you will most likley make $58/60,000 a year without overtime.
We have drivers on $90,000 -$100,000 a year with OT.... and lots of it.
