Bus Drivers is this right?

Is Canada really looking for Bus Drivers from the U.K.? I would of thought that to be an unskilled line of work? Does anyone know what the requirements are age etc? This sounds too good to be true.

Well we were talking about Calgary (a city in Alberta) rather than CANADA, but did you not read the post below? http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=556395

But if you really want to know more then check this out: http://www.calgarytransit.com/ct_emp...s/job_opp.html

I think it's not so much a question of the amount of skill required, but more to do with Calgary needing more "service personnel" than it currently has available to cope with the growth of the city .... i.e. It's a question of supply and demand. Maybe we already have enough qualified crane drivers?

Personally I believe that if they made the positions in Calgary Transit more desirable (ie pay and conditions) then they might get more response from the locals..... but the service industries are struggling in all areas here, so they'd have to be really competitive, and possibly they think it's a better deal to spend money recruiting from overseas......

Looking on another thread here it looks like they could struggle in Calgary with the wages that they are going to recieve as Bus Drivers. So it looks like they could be living like real immigrants:(

Surely thats open to interpretation......But where I live or have lived most immigrants unfortunately have had it hard.

So I hope that these bus drivers don`t find themselves in a worse position by going to Calgary, when I imagine the whole idea of their move is to start a new life for themselves and their families and be in a better financial position.

I don`t think this is too hard to understand or are you going to go  Again

WTF Is that really necessary?................I am sure minors read these forums and know what this means.

Would you care to define most immigrants? or REAL immigrants? I consider myself a REAL immigrant and I don't believe I've had it hard here. Granted many posters on this board have had problems and I respect that but the use of the phrase REAL IMMIGRANTS (to me at least) has both racist and jingoistic connotations

For example real immigrants for me is what countries like USA, Canada, Australia etc had in the past, immigrants that came by boat from Europe or wherever and had it hard to establish themselves and through their sacrifice and hard work built these countries to what they are today.

Today most so called real immigrants are often in many cases exploited workers from third world countries whether they come legally or ilegally and have it hard as well.

The immigrant that maybe you are referring to yourself as, has freedom of movement to work and live largely wherever you want. Life in their new country maybe easy or it may not be, but at least you have the advantage over what I have referred to as real immigrants.

I am sure you don`t need me to explain what these advantages are as they are fairly obvious

You would be in another world too, if you were scrubbing floors and cleaning out public toilets as a job and getting paid a couple of dollars each hour for your troubles.

But lets just be thankful that you didn`t have to do it:thumbsup:.
