Default Brits in Nova Scotia?

Hey Guys,

So I'll try to make this short! I am from Cape Breton (Sydney) and my partner is from Windsor, Berks. He is coming home with me to meet the family and to scope out Halifax as our future home. I would like to get a perspective from those of you who have made this transition already. I love Nova Scotia and I miss it dearly and i have a particular fondness of Halifax as i feel its the perfect city.

Can you tell me how you found the transition? He loves his Arsenal and his cricket so he's just mulling that over now, but i think other than that, he'll be fine. I am delighted to see so many Brits having an overwhelmingly positive experience in our proud country, but i am very open to hear the negative bits as well.

Thanks everyone!!

Hi Vanessa and Glyn

We moved to New Glasgow 1.5 years ago and really enjoy living here. I haven't been to Cape Breton yet but am hoping to travel there within the next few months.

We found the transition really easy. None of us have been homesick at all which I think is a huge bonus for us. Kids (17 and 13) settled in really well at school and we are both working. We find the locals to be very kind and made us feel really welcome.

Moving to a town, we found there is a huge community spirit here. Everyone seems to get involved with lots of local organisations, fundraisers and events. We found it a great way to meet new people and integrate into our new community.

Our youngest son is a huge footie fan and supports Aberdeen and Arsenal. There are lots of soccer for both kids (girls and boys) and adults in Nova Scotia. We also have Fox Sports so he can keep up with the European games.

Hi,

My wife and I moved to NS at the start of April. We had always thought that the first six months would be hard with lots of problems and adjustments to make.

3 months on we are still waiting for them to happen; I've never felt so much at home. The only grief we have had has been with a certain telephone / internet company :curse:

We don't have any children, my wife isn't working and I'm working from home so we had our pick of locations. We had both had our fill of city life and wanted land and peace and quiet. We got it by the spade full. We bought a house 30 km from Amherst with five bedrooms and 18 acres for not much more than my boss in the UK paid to have his new house extended and garage built. Neither of us is the least bit homesick and the only thing that I'm even close to missing is Lancashire Cheese. A very, very, very small price to pay.

I'm here on a three year work visa which we are hoping to convert to a permanent residency status. If I have to leave, I will be absolutely heart broken. I've never been so happy.

You have every right to be proud of Canada. No place is perfect and Canada is no different; it’s just closer to my idea of perfect than any other place I have ever been.
