Hi everyone.

We're Sarah and Shaun and we're looking to emmigrate to Nova Scotia with our two children. This is our first post and can anyone help with a question we have? We have heard through a friend of ours that if you emmigrate to Canada you have to surrender 50% of your savings? We are just starting out on what is likely to be quite an eventful journey and any help/advice will be gratefully recieved.

Hello, Sarah and Shaun, and welcome to the BE forum.
I can't imagine what your friends mean by that.
Your best bet, in my opinion, is to read the articles in the Wiki section of the BE website. There's a link to it in my signature, below.
Hope that helps.

I haven't heard anything about the savings thing either!, don't believe its correct, the only poss link it may have is to starting a business, but don't quote me on that.!
As Judy says have a read of the wiki as loads of info in there.
We are also a family with 2 children hoping to move to NS. There are lots of people here planning to go to NS and some who are already there so lots of advice/info available.
We are applying under the PNP route for NS.
What line of work are you both in as this may help to gain some further info specific to you.
Good luck

Hi Judy and Nikki, thanks for the information. I'm in aircraft maintenance and Sarah is a health care assistant. We are currently looking at the skilled worker visa.

Well I can say having just made the move that the only money we had to pay out was deposit for mortgage and anything else we need for the house. Didn't have to pay 50% to anyone
Good luck

Hi destinationnovascotia, congratulations on your move. From what everyone has said so far it appears that my mate didn't have a clue or was mis-informed by someone else. Either way thanks everyone for the information and I think this one has been put to bed.

Hi Hellie, not entirely sure yet but we have been looking west of Halifax. We have just started so there's a lot that can happen over the next few years.
