Agreed, I also found it wise to make sure the "fish" wasn't in fact fish fingers (or fish sticks as they say it) before ordering too.

'Are you from the USA?' That's a pretty standard British expression when they meet someone from North America

A lot of stupid Brits ask that of Canadians.. that elicits some interesting responses

Don't say 'alright' as a greeting ... had some very strange looks and responses '' yes thanks, do I not look alright? " !!

Even though I lived in London for 13 years before moving here 15 months ago, I still have my Yorkshire accent ... I get asked whereabouts in Australia I'm from.

Fortnight - they have no idea.

... and jump leads are booster cables!

Some people have been confused when I say, for example - "it's half eight" meaning 8.30pm.

They try taking half off eight making 7.30 or dividing eight by two to get the time ....ahhh, bless 'em
