In answer to your off-topic question (although I did mention Winnipeg in my meetup meessage so it's 'slightly' relevant - and hey, I was the leader of the polar bear discussion - oh, but I do love them). Anyway, Winnipeg has had a tough time. A really coldish and rainy summer, then wahay a warm and sunnyish early November. Then we had snow which was cool - nice and dry and the sun came out, so managed to continue our lunchtime walks even though it was -17! But then it decided to warm up and freezing rain was followed by several cm's of ice everywhere so is not quite so much fun. At least snow is easier to walk on.

We live close to the Red River South East of Winnipeg and loving it so far. Only arrived in March and although I got a job pretty quickly, hubby is still looking for work so I can't say it's been easy. Not too sure about St.Boniface - did drive through once to sample the French flavour but it all looked quite depressing with industrial estates and such that my vision of Parisian street cafes kind of went out the window. Ah well! I can't wait until the Winter festival at the Forks when they have husky sleigh rides, and we're hoping to go to Assiniboine Park near Christmas to see the lights, go down the toboggan slide, maybe have a little skate on the duck pond (in your dreams!) and go and see the miniature railway. Should be good - now what was the topic again? Ah yeah - a rodent in a broom cupboard... :D (what were they thinking?)

I was so young when we moved from St. Boniface that I had to ask my parents. They told me that when they first came to Canada and lived there, it (St. Boniface) was an entity onto itself (not part of Winnipeg), and was a small family community with french signs, stores and so on. My parents have been back a couple of times and apparently it is now part of Winnipeg and has become an Industrial basin so to speak. Very different from years ago.

You're bringing back so many memories for me. Tobogganing and skating in Assiniborne Park in -40 weather.....those were the days. My brother was a real hockey nut so my brother/dad built a ice rink in our back yard for us to skate on most of the time. Do they still have that huge slide in the park that was used all year round?

Have you gone to see the polar bears in the park? Assiniborne Park is so beautiful all year round. We use to go as kids to see the bears, have picnics in the summer.

Glad to hear that things are going well for you in Winnipeg. I'm sure your hubby will find a job soon. Enjoy the weather (hehehe), the one reason I would never move back. Although we did have a cottage at Lake of the Woods just outside of Kenora and I would move back for that reason alone.

Now, what was the original topic again? before I get in trouble with the serious Rhodes again?.......
