How do you think I end up seizing all those chocolate bars and disposing of them in the appropriate manner
Tell him to tick the box about meat, fruit, nuts animals etc YES and write chocolate bars.
What about bars of Cadburys fruit and nut doesn't that have dairy and nuts in it
NO MEAT products from the UK i.e. sausages, meat pies etc.
As long as it doesn't look like he will be setting up a food stall and flogging them he will be OK.
As I say to all the Brits that land and don't declare chocolate bars that I know fairly well i.e. Dairy Milk, Aero, Galaxy etc etc
So I see you have ticked NO to the meat, fruit, plants question etc. So this bar of Cadburys Dairy milk whats in it?
Dumb expression on face
Looks like there is milk in it is that correct?
Errr probably.
Where does milk come from usually?
Errr a cow
Correct isn't a cow a dairy animal and therefore milk a dairy product?
Total look of bewilderment and Im doing my best not to piss myself laughing at their expression.
Followed by the very serious tone of well as the item was not declared I will now have to give you a ticket and the fine is $800 Canadian but if you pay now we will reduce it to $400 (BTW this is completely legal and I have seen it done).
Hopefully by then they realize I have a UK accent and Im just taking the piss out of them. Legally I will NEVER accept a chocolate bar from a traveller however if they leave one behind i ensure its handed in to the lost and found box.

When I returned to Canada from the UK recently, I had some fruit in my hand luggage and kept waiting to be told I couldn't proceed further with it. I ate some of the fruit on the plane but still had 2 bananas left towards the end of the flight - when I went to give it to the air stewardess with the rest of the rubbish I had accumulated during the flight, she said I was fine to take them with me - something about it was OK because bananas aren't grown in Canada?
Any comments?

Thanks FL, it's great to hear from someone in the know what the correct procedure is! (I will now start doing this )

Will he be OK with a few packets of spices? Or am I better off saving him the hassle and getting someone to post some to me?

He's probably having second thoughts about coming to visit now that I've given him all these odd customs instructions lol

The banana trees in Saskatchewan and Manitoba are not in bloom for 8 months of the year so imported bananas from the UK banana trees pose no threat. As long as declared they are fine.

I assume all this applies to milka bars and other sweets and crisps brought from Malta as well? In which case im guilty of not declaring as well

I had some Thornton's truffles seized years ago because they looked at the ingredients and it had something in them they didn't like, think it was egg. Because they're freshly made or something they're banned from import. The stuff they sell through their website and in the supermarkets is okay though.

I brought smoked fish once, I declared it, told the agent, not a problem. It was all sealed in original packaging.

Fresh and Uncooked fish cannot be brought in without permits.
Dried, smoked and in sealed packages is OK
