Default Bottled Water

Makes me wonder why news over here is so slow regarding some bottled water being tap water and not real mineral water.

I remember Dansani hit the UK and was removed from the shelves within just a couple of weeks. The water was tested and found to be bad for you.

Dansani and Aquafina are both tap water which is purified to such an extent that all the good minerals are removed, they then add minerals which are supposed to be good for you.

When they tested Dansani in the UK they found they had the %'s incorrect and what they were selling was not good for you, the resulting publicity killed it off in the UK, unsure if they have tried again.

I was so supprised to see how big it was here!!!

I'm not really into bottled water myself, but my wife is and she gets frustrated reading the labels in the supermarkets as most water is NOT mineral water.

No its not, and water is billed as being mineral free. Many of my Canadian friends dislike the mineral water taste and dont undertsand the concept of Spa water and choosing the right minerals for whatever ails you. I used to buy fizzy mineral water in the UK for the taste of it and the "digestive" properties, tap water was ok if i just wanted a drink of still water.

I buy the bottled stuff now as the water out of the tap tastes disgusting and smells of mud, even if you use a Brita. ( I live in Peterborough) I am sure its safe, but the taste is bad. The bottled stuff is also much much cheaper hence we can afford to buy it.

I can drink any bottled water apart from Dasani, it just doesn't taste right to me.

And the flavoured waters which I think are made by Nestle are terrible. The taste is disgusting.

I'm not sure why you're saying the news is slow. The CBC website has quite an informative section devoted to this topic (not that I'm defending the CBC).

I mean its all over the news here now as if its only just been noticed. (edit: although that link is 2000 )

The Coke version of bottled water became highly publicised on first release in the UK (in a bad way), I believe more than a year ago.

I think the Dasani thing was longer ago than that.

I work in a different town to the one i work in and the tap water there tastes just fine, so i sometimes refill my plastic bottle from there. I have chosen not to think about the added bugs doing it this way! Cant be good for you can it?

If you are lucky and have a nice fresh well then it would be bonkers to buy water, wouldnt it?

I do buy bottled gin and bottled tonic though, as I cant find the tap that dispenses it. Is this ok?

Dasani is yuk and I would prefer to drink fizzy anything compared to it. We tend to buy the fruit water as the whole family will drink it not just me. I bought some Evian from Waterton (volvic was alway my preferred choice). It was sooo nice drinking tasty water but the stuff is pretty rare around here.
