Blocking annoying automated calls.
We get calls once or twice a day from a 'business' saying to call a particular number as a matter of urgency on an important business matter.
I have the number being called from..... is there a way on the home phone to block this number ?
Sometimes it calls late at night or early in the morning and sometimes even leaves high pitched screeching tones on the answer machine.
These are automated calls so no point in just listing our home number on the usual place. I want to block it from even calling us.
Searched our provider website to no avail.

If Bell do it I imagine most of the usual suspect will too, whos your provider?
Otherwise there is the "Do not call list" that may apply in this case, but it takes time to filter through.

Re: Blocking annoying automated calls.
I think the DNCL is pretty good in Canada, since I signed up I only get calls from people authorized to call me, except for the Philippine call centre that got royally bollocked a couple of years ago. As I recall the Govt. formally made a complaint to the Filipinos, I could never imagine the Americans doing that.
But yeah, use call blocking.

The do not call register worked for me as well. We went from 10 nuisance calls a day down to 1 at most, and a lot of the time none at all. Takes about a month or two to kick in though.

I don't have a landline so for me thats the best way to avoid dodgy home calls

You don't think it's a bit pricey for that kind of relief

Make sure you renew the DNCL when it expires. I forgot and wondered why I started getting annoying calls, from voice over IP lines, so bell cannot block them (or so it says), re-activated DNCL and calls stopped.
The only annoying call I still get is from some duct cleaning company (A1 duct cleaning - I think) alas it's a voip number so I cannot block it. I've told them to stop calling, alas they don't listen. I've also pointed out that I consider this harassment, at which point they always hang up.

Re: Blocking annoying automated calls.
We're with Bell Aliant and received nuisance calls from them almost daily - according to the woman I spoke to in Customer Service they don't have a DNCL and Canada doesn't have any legislation that prevents them from pestering people....... She said even if they did have a DNCL they would just call from another extension!!
Guess she was referring to this (Who can still call you):
Telemarketing calls from organizations with whom you have an existing business relationship are also exempt. You are considered to have an existing business relationship with a telemarketer if you:
•Purchased, leased, or rented a product or service in the last eighteen (18) months from the telemarketer;
•Have a written contract with the telemarketer for a service that is still in effect or expired within the last eighteen (18) months; and/or
•Asked a telemarketer about a product or service within the last six (6) months.
