Good expression Jackie, I shall remember that one for when work starts in Jan 09, and I know just the person to say it too ;)

The difference is that I know there are places north of Watford, few admittedly but some, where life could be tolerable. The "country has gone to the dogs" posters seem unable to grasp that their having to chosen to live in a street frequented by irksome urchins doesn't mean that everyone in the country has ruffians at the kerb.

Perhaps the other posters live north of Birmingham.

I doubt anyone would choose to live next door to the family from hell! It's more likely to be they get dropped locally to you.

Or, they could just cruise around in their stolen car looking for rich pickings, I think this says it all!

Och, I keep promising myself I won't reply to you again but ok here goes!

I didn't "chose" to live in a street frequented by irksome urchins because it wasn't like that when we moved in, nor was it like that for the first two and a half years. This has happened in the past three years. Sadly my crystal ball must not have been working when we purchased the house because clearly had I known then that a bunch of yobs would render my home and my investment worthless then of course never in a million years would we have moved here.

We work damn hard for our house, we take deep pride in it, always have done, and yes you got it I am very bitter that I go out for a night to find that the car has been written on in permanent marker and yes I am incredibly pissed off that all our plans to sell the house and use the equity that we have worked damn hard to build has gone because who the hell is going to buy a house when you get yob culture thrown in as an added bonus.

So yes, joke if you must, wind us up if you enjoy, that is fine because nothing you say when you are sat pretty in your politically correct little life thousands of miles away can be any worse than the living reality we are left to deal with here. So there you go there is a generalisation and a reaction to boot!

My Point exactly! I think db is either winding you up, or he really does live in lala land.

A truly terrible situation to be in Tiny, not knowing what to come home to every night :(

Actually, according to these recent studies, Canada has a marginally higher murder rate per capita than the UK:

I suspect it is the more sensationalist press in the UK that highlights the problem. It is not all snow-capped mountains with puritanical people here either.

But for alot of us, we think that our neighbourhood was good when we lived there, but for whatever reason decided to visit xxx place and went back with a totally different attitude to there home town :unsure:

My home village is not that bad compared to some areas and yes DBD i come from the 'north'.
But after seeing ontario especially kingston, london area we decided that we wanted better for our children, Was not because there wasnt work as there was plenty of this, EVEN in the north :blink:

We have come here, we can leave our doors open, let the children goto the park on there own, feel safe walking the street at anytime of the night and lately left car running whilst i went shopping...............

Many aday i leave the car unlocked, would i do that in the uk, erm i'm not daft, but here i feel safe, my family are safe, the school's are awesome and everyone is so friendly

I feel for the OP and others that are going through this in the UK, they are still waiting to start there journey and have alot to go through yet, but i wish them so much luck.........lets hope its your last xmas in the uk and all the best for 2009 :wub:

Thank you so much for posting this, when we went on our reccy last April we let the kids walk to the park themselves, something they have never been allowed to do here. It felt so much safer, there wasn't the gangs of kids hanging around, don't get me wrong there were kids but they weren't menancing or threatening at all. It was the one thing that really appealed to us.

Thank you again for posting, I just hope this becomes our reality soon.

I don't doubt that you live in a dump and can't wait to leave. My objection is only to your portraying your life as being typical of life in the UK.

I'm sure it isn't. But to save me explaining it all, if you read the post from the begining. I'm sure you'll get the general picture.

As in "Moondevil's post." Says it all really! ;)

Hi Moon,

"Happy New Year" to you too! :) I know we've PM'd and you're happy and I can only agree with what you say. No you wouldn't dream of leaving your doors open etc etc... It would be madness!

Good luck to you, will speak later :)
