Default Background checks

How detailed is the background check, what do the Canadian embassies do? Write to previous employers? Check addresses listed? Just curious as it seems strange that after a Police Clearance there are further checks

all they ask for is just the police checks from london you fill a form in at the police station and you pay 10.00 for this and they send it to your home address it can take from 6 to 8 weeks but this is only valid for 6 months me and my partner did one and we had to do another one as this was out of date, we are just in the last stages of emigrating now cant wait hope this helps any info let us know thanks

Dear John,

No there is apparently something else after you pass the points test, medicals and so on, a background check is for terrorism and other reasons. What kind of detail do they go into? Why necessary if you have Police Clearances?
