Default Back in Canada at last

I'm finally back after landing in August 08! I flew from Birmingham Int to Detroit Metro with KLM & Delta. It was a surprisingly nice flight I was expecting Delta to be terrible but no they seem to have improved a lot

Customs was a bit of a problem. Not the US but Canada I travelled through the Windsor tunnel expecting a nice welcome to Canada but I couldn't believe it! "How long you been out the country" since August 08 I answered then she proceeded to ask around 20 times if I'm carrying any firearms As if I thought... then she parked me.

Her colleagues then told me to get out the car whilst they went through my luggage and they also must have asked me 30 times if I have any firearms towards the end I started to doubt myself

Anyway who said Canada was cold? It was so hot around Windsor yesterday

Canadian border officials are too nosey. It's always 'where have you been', 'what have you been doing', 'do you have friends there'. I'm always tempted to say none of your bloody business - but I don't want the rubber glove treatment so I don't. I much prefer the disinterested grunt you get when handing over your passport in european countries (at least as an EU citizien).

Do canadian citizens get the third degree on the way back in or is it just us PR's?

I came back into Canada at St. Stephen N.B. last week after almost six months in the US. A few cursory questions, including asking if I had any fireworks or firearms but that was it. I was the only vehicle at the new border post and was dreading the prospect of having to unload everything for an inspection as I was loaded to the gunwales so to speak. I just told the agent what I was bringing back and had the receipts and passports in my hand. No problem. Through in about three minutes flat.

Came back on Wednesday after a week away. One Canadian, one PR.

"Have you any purchases worth more than $1500?"

"Do you want to keep your visa waiver?"

Couldn't have been easier really.

I have never been grilled at all coming back into Canada. Our cradle Canadian friends are always amazed as they state they are always given the "What have you been up to?" treatment.

Maybe you intimidate them with your "'i am a lawyer, try anything and i will sue your ass" stare.

Sorry, but I LOL'd at this post!

Normally they are very pleasant at the tunnel, much better than at the bridge!

I'm guessing the rental car you had may have been flagged for firearms at some point.... They very rarely ask this otherwise....

I was asked yesterday if I had any "on sale easter candy" - the guy was actually joking for a change (or at least I think he was).

yeah it was a real shock - I was quite smug as I got there too as the Americans had let me through np... maybe it was the Michigan plates like you say... they turned my case inside out...
