Maybe you could shortlist a few and ask for personal experiences? Sorry I can't help further as I haven't stayed in Edmonton.
Good luck,

Try Tripadviser.co.uk, We used this as it gave peoples experiences of hotels they stayed in and also the prices, it should give you a good idea.

there are no b+b's as you would know them, canadian version would be a motel, rather than hotel, however generally speaking the likelihood of you coming across prostitution, drugs and gang crime in such a place is high. i'm afraid you will have to spend a bit and stay in a hotel, the various plaza hotels on and around jasper ave in the city are all i would recommend.

Dear All
We stayed in a B&B in Edmonton for 4 months when we first arrived, and it was brilliant. Much better than the hotels we tried in our first week. We stayed at both Grays Haven and A Secret Garden. They were gorgeous, clean, convenient and run by fabulous families who were a fantastic source of info and support. No drugs or downbeat flophouses, these were luxurious accommodations which were much cheaper than virtually all the hotels we contacted. GIVE B AND B's A CHANCE. Check out their website at www.bbedmonton.com
