Hi
As part of out research trip in May, one of the areas that we are considering is to move to is Edmonton. Can anyone advise as to which areas are considered to family friendly as we also have a young boy, so good schools would be important.
Thank you for your help in advance.

At least two BE forum members, R2D2 and Linda_P, live in
S h e r w o o d P a r k
They describe it as a very family-friendly area.
Other areas that often are mentioned in connection with Edmonton are
S p r u c e G r o v e
S t o n y P l a i n
S t A l b e r t
I hope some Edmontonians will be along in due course to answer your questions, but in the meantime use the forum's search function to look for posts about the above mentioned communities.

Hi there..
As Judy said we are in Sherwood Park, we moved here last March and we love it. It has a great family feel to it and the schools are great. I have been told by many people that there are no bad schools here in 'the park' (as the locals call it!)
We were living in Brookside, SW area of Edmonton, (also known as Riverbend) in a rental Townhouse, we loved that area too, but the house prices had risen that much that we decided to look further out.
We were always told to avoid the NE area of Edmonton and also Milwoods. Milwoods typically gets a bad press, we know people who live there and they have told us that they love living there, and that it's only a few streets that ever have problems, but I would rather not take the risk. If you look on MLS the houses will be cheaper in Milwoods!
Please let me know if I can help further

I live in West Edmonton, which I love, but it's very expensive. We are only renting right now, and we will probably end up buying somewhere else as the house prices around here are crazy.
The schools are good, in this immediate area we have Patricia Heights Elementary and Rio Terrace - both with very good reputations, and then the Junior High and High School for this area have great reputations too.
It really depends on how much money you have to spend (or want to spend) on a house. The road I would really like to live on in Quesnell Heights (lovely river views) would require a lottery win for me
I can recommend a really nice realtor if you need to speak with one, prior to us moving here she took my husband out for the whole morning and drove him around lots of nice areas etc. She was really helpful.

It all really depends how much money you have to spend.
Quesnell Heights lovely views and expensive, Sherwood Park is lovely and not quite so expensive, Beaumont is an up and coming suburb which is slghtly cheaper but still not cheap. Lots of new sub-division being built on the North West edge, nice houses, anon neighbourhoods.
Several Sattelite towns which are really nice, St Albert, Spruce Grove and Stoney Plain, all well worth a look.

I have done quite a bit of research into this.
If you haven't already done so, you may find it useful to read the Wiki article on Canadian schooling, particularly the section on How to assess schools in Canada.
Hope that helps.
