Anyone in or near Barrie Ontario???
Hi All,
My wife and I are planning on relocating from the UK to Barrie Ontario or the surrounding area with our 2 dogs, we are hopefully coming on a reccie sometime later this year, just wondered if theres anyone on here living in the area that can give us some info on what its like there to live and work prospects also, I'm an Electrician, any help would be great
Thanks

Barrie is a pleasant small city (135,000) situated on Lake Simcoe and within a two hour's drive of downtown Toronto. Many commute to Toronto by train each day. I think it's an attractive place with good summer and winter activities. It has expanded greatly in the past few years to become a Toronto bedroom community but there is so much farmland between the Toronto outskirts and Barrie, that it certainly retains its distinctiveness. It's touted as a good place to live and is surrounded by great recreational land, forests, lakes etc.

No, I don't live there but have visited many times. It has everything you are ever going to need, schools, recreational areas, a great waterfront, good sub-divisions, shopping malls and big-box stores on its outskirts. Close to a major highway and all-in-all a good place for a family to settle.

Hi Mags,
We have a house in Barrie although we still live in England. We use the house ourselves for a couple of months a year and rent it out the rest of the time.
We absolutely love the place, the people are really friendly and we have some really good friends out there. There are quite a few Brits in town already so its not unusual to hear an English accent.
We have two teenage kids and there is loads to do for us all, its great having white Christmas' and be able to ski (although not very well yet) in the winter and then spend warm summers out there by the lake.
If you have any specific questions PM me and I'll see if I can help. I have a few good contacts if you're going out for a recce.
Chris
