About one hour North of barrie, 30 minutes from Wasaga, one step from Heaven.

Barrie is a bustling, growiung city, many opportunities for low cost housing in smaller communities around it.

You had better like Snow.

also in Wasaga Beach, but Steve is obviously out of the driving Miss Daisy school, Barrie is 30 mins away. Also a Liverpool supporter. We were originally going to settle in Barrie but Wasaga Beach was more appealing for us. I can recommend a great Realtor in Barrie.

Steve, bring you snow boots...was snowing all of yesterday but only got just over an inch. They were forecasting 10-20cm, someone clearly nicked the extra. Had to go to Barrie in the middle of the night due to an emergency with our dog and they looked to have it a bit worse there. Mind you the other week we had a like dusting here and Barrie got dumped with about 5 inches, the 400 was carnage.

Re: Anyone from Barrie?

There is a massive Liverpool supporters club in Toronto, ex players make regular appearances i believe.

I work from home via the internet therefore location isn't a problem for us. Value for money you get a boatload more in Wasaga, plus it is growing the plans for here are huge, the summer equivalent of Collingwood. Which was another attraction, to have the beach here but Collingwood 15km's away means the best of both worlds. Barrie just seemed too industrialised in a lot of parts to me, and it was development after development of identical houses with small lots.

This is the development where my family, plus KatyM and CanadaBound have brought. www.democrathomes.ca , Wasaga Sands.

Steve. yeah guess again!!

All the best

Chris

What line of work are you in? Also Andy (Canadabound) lives here and commutes to the GTA daily. Quality of life and all, have a look at property prices here, it will surprise you. They recently opened a Wallmart, Canadian Tire, Marks Work in town, plans going in for a big hotel development on beach 1. More stores in the pipeline, plus plenty of job opportunities in Barrie. To do a test drive round a load of developments in Barrie and then drive around Wasaga and see what pace of life you prefer, thats what we did and Wasaga won hands down.

If you want to read about our journey and why we are in Wasaga read my website the link should be in the signature.

collingwood is a nice town, used to have ship yard, now closed, it is now changing to a tourist town, good ski hills there, we found though that house prices were more expensive for what you got thats why we chose the beach (OH was born in collingwood),

I have just been told by other half looks like i put 3 - 4hours to barrie i meant 45mins

steve

PS chris you did say anything :)

high street banking or investment banking, i am the later. Collingwood is the Blue Mountain ski resort, just do a google on both those names. It isn't skiing like you would get out west but it is the best within 90 mins of the GTA. The resort itself is very nice and pretty pricey.

Steve, i meant anything you could purchase in a shop. Even 45 minutes is slow driving, the 26 is 80 kmh you know.

we've just been looking at a few houses in Wasaga on mls.ca i agree they do seem very favourable against barrie, we will be renting at first as we are struggling to sell our property over here in southport two very close calls but both times fell through to the potential buyers not getting enough mortgage funds:thumbdown:

but can't wait to get over there

high street, but we are not sure whether we would like to try something completely different as we are both a bit hacked off with high street banking at the moment

We haven't sold ours in the UK yet, we have only been here 4 weeks. But the house we are buying is being built and won't be ready until May so we have a bit of breathing space. We got a lovely rental here 4 bedroom, nice big house, CAD$2000 per month including all bills, but that is only out of season, due to the high rentals they can get weekly in the summer, so the house better be ready.

have a look at the development we are buying in www.democrathomes.ca , as far as i am concerned very good value for money.

As Wasaga grows there will be plenty of call for banks, no HSBC, no RBC, infact very few Canadian Banks in town yet. Have to drive 10 mins to get to nearest free cash point, means i end up paying for all my withdrawals as i can't be bothered with the drive.

collingwood is nice
sunset point is ok for swimming in summer all rock no sand, in winter you are close to the ski hills blue mountain, and georgian peaks. im not sure if the other one is private or not is craigleaf tod broker.

the people are nice its has a big build up of everything. but than everything changes i grew up there and it was the place to be, wasaga beach was a summer town no one went there, and all the hard kids came from there. berrie was a day trip for shopping now all that has changed.

as for steve's driving it's because he dose everything by sak nav and doesn't take my directions so it dose take him that long i go back roads everywhere and get there fast but than i grew up there so i know the back roads in and out.

Yes but what my other half is not saying is her directions include christmas tree creek, wolf's crossing etc (which although correct) is not particulary helpful when you are not local.

and who listens to their wives anyway :)

Very good prices aswell, we have got 7 bedroom, 5 bathroom, dining room, 2 reception rooms, gym, office and big basement playroom for kids...all sat on 3/4 acre for CAD$600k. We took a basic design and modified it hugely, adding a loft and finishing basement.

Steve, i wasn't referring to CJ, i was on about your driving. Don't try to drop me in it with your missus, bad enough with mine.

are there any other decent house listing sites other than mls? i am liking what i am seeing of wasaga on there and the pricesare ok maybe we will eventually consider there if we have to rent for a few months before we buy outright,

or son might not be happy if we went to wasaga though he's been chatting to a few "barrie" young ladies and all that suppose doing those 18 year old things that we've all done before LOL

Re: Anyone from Barrie?

if you go to the lights at the super store and go to stayner turn l on con 12(uncle roy's road) you will see christmas tree creak, wolves crossing, turtle pass and than the big iron bridge ( mind you i did miss it for a few years and my dad helped build it and the one in berrie about 50 years ago) but its a good way to mark your way at least get use to it because in a few years you will find your self calling a house buy who lives there that way you know what people are talking about, and the locals still do it.

i refer to uncle roy,s road as you could go knock on the door and ask for a side of beef for the freezer and he will tell you when it will be ready and pick up at meat packers good price and better then the super store

now just need steve to get job so i can have a freezer and food to eat.

steve first time you ever called blue mountain a mountain im shocked

You are kidding, you son won't be unhappy in the summer when the beach is full of young skantily clad ladies. Obviously never witnessed this only have eyes for my wife, Steve told me that is what happens:rofl:

Try doing a search for wasaga sun, it is the local newspaper, but i am not sure if they have an online presence.

There is another website for homes, list 4 homes or something, if you give me 5 mins it is bookmarked on my other computer.
