Re: Anybody happy in Canada?
I think we'd all be happy to sign off in France, I'd quite happily head to Alba or the quiet villages around it and spend my remaining days completing my memoirs whilst sipping my continental fruit beers with out fear of reprisal from my fellow man........

Re: Anybody happy in Canada?
Yes, pretty happy. It's not perfect in Canada, it's not perfect in England. We all live wanting for 70% or more in terms life happiness / satisfaction. Ours in London was at 75-80% for years and then it started to dip into the 60%s I'd say. We moved when it was about 45%... Right now, we have about 75-80% again here in Toronto but I could see that going up more this year under the right circumstances ... Then again, it could dip if it doesn't!
It's all transient this life journey thing ...

People who've lived in the US & Canada are cheating.

I have to say that I also think that Jonboye's post was a top post and I agree wholeheartedly with it. Being a relatively new immigrant I cant say that I have personal experience yet of all his points but I am going to print it out and look at it whenever life gets in the way of all these plans I make.

And to answer the question, yes I am happy here.We have come across some frustrations but thats to be expected.
I like the difference to where we lived before. We wouldnt go back

So may I recommend you visit the Haute Saone and the Vosges one day as it's a beautiful part of France and not very well known, which makes it very peaceful.
By the way, you're french is delightful and very much like my husbands. He gets upset though sometimes when I laugh at his efforts!!!

Re: Anybody happy in Canada?
To the OP - I am happy here after 4 and a half months. My OH is very happy and has been here for just over 18 months (so more settled than I am).
As others, I agree with JonboyE - things are different here and we embrace the differences.
We had a good life in the UK, so we do not criticise our country of birth but I know we will have a good life here, too.
I think emigration is the same as marriage - don't do it just for money or looks!

Re: Anybody happy in Canada?
I also find that we forget that it's not just the country you live in that changes, it's people as well. So what appeals to you in a country when you are 25, will be very different to what you'll want 10 years later, or maybe even 10. People's priorities and what they want from life will always evolve. Hence why some posters here are on their 4th (or is that 5th?Jury's still out ) country.
I moved from France to the UK 17 years ago, and have been very happy - I feel as British as my Brit friends and my English husband, albeit still very French in a very unexpected way. And as I much as I still love this country, it's time to move on, in the same way that it was time to move on from France in my early 20s. Britain's changed and so have I.
Everyone's different. Which is why this thread could go on forever, and we'd still be nowhere near a helpful, universal answer

Re: Anybody happy in Canada?
I'm happy here. I recognise the limitations of living here over UK as I do the advantages. But on balance I'm happy here. I'd be happy in the UK I think as well. If we hadn't moved, we'd definately be living in a smaller house, but work, family, death, births and all the other things that we've dealt with over the past 7 years would still have happened. Our experiences would have been different but we'd still be happy. Ish.
