In Alberta, Calgary?

Hey Mate, I,m in rotating equipment in the EPC's can put you in contact with PE's.

What do you wanna know ?

Basically I'm working for a large multinational company in the UK and am looking to move to Calgary in about 2.5 years time. What are the job prospects looking like and if there is any preferred method of applying.

Why just Calgary ???

There are a number of large EPCs in the Toronto area. Also given the problems in getting people in Alberta a lot of the design work is moving the Eastern Offices.

Also forget the idea of getting a cheap house if youre staying in EPC's as Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary all expensive.

It is taking three years plus for Skilled Worker App's at the moment.
In my opinion its too long to wait your life can change massively during that time. At the end of three years you could have decided canada isnt for you for a variety of reasons.

Guess you could look at getting a company to arrange a work permit. Again in the current climate, amount of work available, number of engineers worldwide available, it shouldnt be a problem.

A few guys on here can advise on APEGGA but from my experience with EPC's in the current climate it isnt a Pre Req.
I havent got P Eng for example neither has my Lead and a number of other colleagues.

Who are you working for ? Staffer / Contractor etc ??

Any reason why you want to move in a few years? The Oil boom is now, so the quicker that you get in the better.

I know of a recrutment agency that is looking for process engineers to work with a Calgary based E&C. These positions are on temporary work permits and as far as I know they will help with most of the relocation issues. You can apply for PR once you get here. PE status doesn't appear to be that much of an issue.

Yes you are right, 3 years down the line I may not even want to come to Canada but I don't want to come before 3 years for several reasons...

Yeah I know KBR (Isnt the Office in Leatherhead?) but didnt they have a Management buy out and are now PSR or something ? Or does that just apply to the Aberdeen Office ?

They have the BHP Gas Contract for Liverpool Bay run from Runcorn. Did similar project with Costain for Centrica Morecambe Bay before coming here.

From your comments if you are willing to outlay the cash (approx 2.5-3K I guess) for the application then stick a skilled worker application in as you'd meet the requirements and points.

Cash wise I reckon salaries are 75 - 90K from my experiences. So 45K sterling max.

Currently keeping fingers crossed for the postman to bring a job offer from a big oil services company. Have been been told by HR that they are preparing the offer but don't want to say more unless it tempts fates

Salaries are higher in Calgary at the moment. A guy I used to work with in his mid forties is getting 112k + quarterly retention bonuses. Not even a lead position.
