Default Halifax and Cape Breton

Hello all,

I am going on holiday for a week in October (14th-21st) to Nova Scotia, for 4 days I will be staying in Halifax and for the rest of my time I will be staying In Stellarton (with a friend) we are going to go up to Cape Breton (sooo excited about that)

So I have studied the "doers and dreamers guide to Nova Scotia" and the "Halifax guide" and seen a lot of interesting things that I might want to do.

My question is what should I do/see/take pictures of? Anyone have any insider tips, it would be lovely to hear all comments.

Thanks

Emma

We are headed off to NS on 9th Sept. OH has a job interview in Dartmouth but the job will be based in New Glasgow and surrounding area.

We are staying in Halifax for 4 days then head up north for 3. We have been researching Pictou County and its really difficult to find any town centre pictures on the web. Maybe there isn't one - could be just strip malls. We shall find out however and I will be snappy-happy with my camera and will post some on webshots.

We will be staying in Pictou for a few days and have been in touch with a realtor for local information. What we do know is that property and land is inexpensive and OH's dream of a custom built home on a few acres may come true Worryingly, I can't find any rental property advertised anywhere other than holiday homes which are far too expensive.

Here is a good website for the area www.pcconnects.ca

If all goes well with the job, we'll be heading off on a work permit.

Are you just going on holiday there or is that where you want to relocate to?

We went to NS one the same week as you last year and had a really great time. Cape Breton is really lovely. The trees had started to change colours.

You are going around the time the celtic colours festival finishes so some places may be closed as it is the end of season. One of the things we enjoyed lots is taking a slight detour off the cabot trail to meat cove and watched whales off the coast with our bins. It was really great as I had never seen whales in the wild before.

If you are in Baddeck at all I can recommend the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. We both found it quite interesting.

Have a great time.

Well I would be hoping to move to Halifax, would love to live outside it and commute to work. I could live anywhere but need to move to somewhere close to Halifax as OH is hoping to get a transfer through his company. (Hoping lol)

I want to do the work permit thing you'll need to keep in touch and let me know how you get on and how much it will cost, as it would be a great help to me and I'll do the same but it looks like your further ahead in the process than me.

It seems to me...if memory serves me right........Pictou doesn't have much of a "downtown" I think it was just a main street with some stores on it. It was awhile ago I was there. We nearly moved there but oh didn't get the job! New Glasgow has a nice Mall, think it is called Highland Square or something like that. Perhaps you could have a look for the chamber of commerce for the area and get info from them.
