Default Anglo v Whites

I know shipping has been done to death but we've narrowed it down to Anglo Pacific and Whites based on price. (We are only taking clothes, skis, snowboards, bikes and other personal belongings as our house buyer is also having most of our furniture!).

Anyway, could someone please tel me if they have used either of these two companies and the experience, whether good or bad.

I look forward to the replies.

Thanks

We used White's (Aberdeenshire) and was most impressed by their service. Very speedy and efficient. We rented a full 20ft container.

On this side of the Atlantic their partner company was fantastic. The guys even built our brand new 3 queen beds from Sears that happened to be delivered by Sears on the same day.

No breakages at all. In fact all the clothing hanging in the clothing boxes were still hanging up.

Can't remember the exact price of the insurance (think about 300 GBP) but its up to yourself what you want to insure. You simply fill out the form.

Hi there,

We used Whites (Dunfermline). They were fantastic. Two guys took three days to fully empty our house. The first two days they spent wrapping and packing everything then on the third day they loaded it onto their van.

We didn't know how long it would take us to find a house so we put our belongings into storage with Whites (how gave us 8 weeks free storage in the UK). When we got our date of entry for our new house, we instructed Whites to ship our goods and in total, from instructing them to ship, our goods were delivered to our new house in Canada within 5 weeks. Wasn't too impressed with the agent in Edmonton who dealt with delivery but all in all nothing was broken or damaged.

Insurance is easy to complete and cost us an extra £500 on top of the quote. Remeber that you are insured for a basic amount and only pay extra insurance if you require it (I think).

Would thoroughly recommend Whites. Hope this helps.

PS - re your bikes, my husband has a Giant carbon race bike, a Colnago and we also took two mountain bikes. We removed the pedals and turned the handle bars on the mountain bikes and they were put into two giant plastic bags. The guys from Whites made a box up for the Colnago frame but my husband had wrapped it in pipe insulation and padded plastic before it went into the box. They took one look at the race bike and suggested we should pack it ourselves. Hubby got a bike box from a local shop, wrapped it and boxed it himself (he does love his bikes!!). They all got here unmarked and undamaged. Phew - you should have seen the smile on his face when he seen his beloved bikes again LOL.

We had Whites and Anglo pacific quote but they could not match Foxe's £2100 for 660 square foot to Halifax Nova Scotia.

I remember clearly that white's insurance is not insurance as such and they do not pay out the full value of your insured goods. They pay a partial value which they spend months haggling over.

Hi, We used Anglo Pacific - similar situation to you, we only packed bikes, snowboards, clothes, one bed and kids toys (still 291 cubic feet!) -we didnt have a full container, and so had to wait for the container to fill up before shipping. They were fantastic in the Uk, can't comment on the other end yet as our stuff is about to arrive, Anglo are using a co. called Bekins here - who I have read on here are quite good, they have contacted us to advise our stuff will be delivered by the end of the month! Yippee - certainly not the fastest I have heard of (goods packed up 3rd August) but I couldn't fault the service so far!
