$79 Canadian an hour? What is it doing? Seriously, there are very few jobs that would pay that - perhaps you should double check?

But what field? If you and your colleagues are lawyers, accounts, or doctors, then that's one thing. If you're first line tech support, that's something else... Context helps.

These are of course contract rates, not FTE. That comes with the overhead of having to register, own, and operate an incorporated company, and all the expenses that involves. It is however, an extremely tax efficient way to make a living.
As an example:
- Project Managers, minimum $100ph
- Solution Architects: minimum $90-$100ph
- Domain/Enterprise Architects: minimum $125ph

i've been offered a few O&G jobs in AB that sit around the $50-$80 mark, which is unfortunate as my TWP is tied to my current employer
good way to get a foot in the door i suppose

I feel your pain! For the first few years on my TWP I was being paid a pittance, whilst receiving work offers triple my salary! The day my PNP/PR landed was the last day I worked in that job

Perth is a good place, like everywhere it receives negatives as well as positives, we personally have loved it here. Cost of living is high, no doubt, Canada for myself is about choices and experiences, my worry like most, is around disposable income to enjoy it, no point me moving my whole family if I can't afford to take them skiing or trips away.

Most top tier roles in the field of IT within O&G in Calgary start at $100/ph.

Re: Alberta Salary Checker
In fact, even non O&G Corps in Calgary will pay close to that because they have to in order to compete and attract talent. There's more jobs than people here, in this sector at least.
And yes - those are contracting rates.
