Is anyone going to the seminar in Aintree, Merseyside in Sept and would like to meet up there?

Thanks, have had a look but could only find someone asking when the next one was and it wasn't in my area.
Had a chat about it in the "lounge" before but it wasn't really rated very well. Bit worried as am sortof pinning all my hopes on it answering all my questions.

If you have an immigration question then it's the best place to go to get answers, and not just on the internet; I would choose having access to that forum above a seminar or an immigration consultant any day of the week.

Hi Beck77, We're going to the Emigrate seminar in Aintree in September. We could meet up if you like. We have done a lot of research on immigration so may be able to help. Whereabouts in Canada are you thinking of going?

Hi Beck - welcome to the Forum.
There are a lot of opinions about these events and, yes, there are a load of people just trying to sell their services BUT that said we really enjoyed the two we went to at Sandown.
1. We met some like-minded people there and are still in touch with a few of them four years later.
2. We found that the shows gave us some sense of excitement about what we were planning. Kind of like going to a holiday show
3. We picked up loads of information from the various stands - some of it was rubbish but there were also some useful nuggets, contact numbers, checklists, etc and things that we hadn't considered. Plus I love picking up freebies like stress balls, pens etc .... sad I know!
4. We also got business cards from everyone that was based in Canada (even in Provinces that we weren't interested in) and every now and then dropped them an email about what our current plans were. I met a lady from the CHC in the ladies and she gave me the name of her cousin who worked for Calgary Economic Development who subsequently met us for coffee (when we visited Calgary for a recce) and wrote a positive support letter for us to forward to London CHC in support of our application. Don't know if it helped but it's all about networking and making contacts.
If you haven't been to one then I would recommend that you do and talk to as many people as you can.
Just go, enjoy the seminars and ignore the hard-sell stands.
Good luck, J

No - I mean you might want to post this question in that forum rather than in the main Canada forum. People who hang around in that sub-forum are going through the process and will more likely go to those kind of things.
If you have an immigration question then it's the best place to go to get answers, and not just on the internet; I would choose having access to that forum above a seminar or an immigration consultant any day of the week.

You are right you never know who you will meet and I like to make the best of every opportunity. We got a lot out of the shows but I know that they are not everyone's cup of tea. Just go and have fun and treat it as a day out.
We have been in Calgary for just over 3 years now and are loving every minute of it. There have been ups and downs but overall it has definitely been the best move we have ever made and we are looking forward to applying for Canadian citizenship this year.
Where are you thinking of heading to in Canada?
Enjoy the planning process - it is really exciting! J
