4 Months in Toronto
Hi,
I'm after a little bit of advice. My wife, kids and I are going to be travelling to Toronto early next year and staying for four months (from the UK). I'm looking for a website that has property for rent like UK's number one property website for properties for sale and to rent in the UK is there something like this for Toronto.
Also, I'd like to enrol the kids (who will be 3 and 4) into a nursery. Would I have to pay for the year, or are there flexible places that would allow me to pay monthly.
Thanks for your help.

https://www.realtor.ca would be something similar to right move. It'll allow you to search for rental properties, however, I don't know how many places listed there would be open to a short term rental, so it could be a good idea to speak with a realtor (estate agent in other words) and see what they are aware of.
As for daycare, the first obstacle could be getting the kids enrolled as there are usually wait lists due to the demand. When it comes to payment, I know we paid monthly for our son when he went to daycare, so it may well be possible. May be worth having a look here: https://kidsandcompany.com/ca/ should also give pricing info too - note, it's not cheap! I think for my son at age 3 to 4 it was around $1000 per month

If you're only going for 4 months, then a normal rental probably wouldn't work, but Air B 'n B or something similar might suit?
Not sure if you'd normally need a study permit for a nursery, hopefully not as it's not 'proper' education, but something to check with the nursery anyway. And do make sure you've got really good healthcare as you won't be eligible for provincial cover as visitors.
Have fun.

just a note on the daycare - You may have thought about it already, but be sure to bring proof of vaccinations for the kids

Here is a listing of short term rentals available in Toronto, its on Kijiji, which is similar to Gumtree;
Find a Short Term Rental in Toronto (GTA) | Real Estate | Kijiji Classifieds
Freestanding homes are in very short supply, the average single family home is in excess of $2 million. So expect to pay in excess of $3,000 per month to rent a home anywhere near downtown Toronto, a bit less if you're willing to fan out to the suburbs.
Enjoy, and have fun !

Do you have a source that substantiates what, on the face of it, seems a ridiculous claim? Perhaps only the Bridal Path is considered for this purpose, perhaps there's one house that costs 100 million dollars and buggers the average, certainly there's something wrong with that number.

Average new GTA home price is over $1m, as of April 2016. Don't shoot the messenger as I've not done extensive research on the Toronto housing market, but have glanced previously in interest. I'm more for the rental market myself lol.

I feel absolutely ridiculous, there is something wrong with that number, I failed to proofread and hit 2 instead of one. My apologies.

The published stats are at the $1mi mark for single family homes in Toronto. Dbd33 makes a good point about statistics sometimes being mess up though. For example there is a house in Oakville on the market at the moment for over $60mi. The month that one sells the statistics for the average Oakville price, already scary, are going to be truly terrifying.
