Looks like you chose the wrong place then doesn't it? The OP was describing his incredible first year journey in NS. As you are the only one that disagrees with the OPs sentiments, I would suggest your views are in the minority? You must have some positive comments about Montreal? if so please share...

Hmm
I just picked up this mornings Montreal Gazette, I'm just on page 3 and already 2 home invasions (with guns), 1 body found in the St Lawrence, and a 17 year old fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed.
I saw the most violent and worst incidence of road rage here I have ever witnessed here in Montreal. The guy was getting beaten to a pulp and the police were nowhere to be seen.
As for not being crowded here (in Canada), try either the Decarie Expressway or the Jaques Cartier bridge at 8am, thats enough to give the M25 a run for its money anyday.
Get real it's no different from the UK

Hi
Sorry if I caused any offence. Seems that a lot of posts lose their original subject, easy to get sucked into that.
I'm not saying Montreal is a bad place but I'm just trying to point out that it is the same as London, no better , no worse.!!

Jonathan,
No offence caused what so ever. Clearly life is very different in NS from Montreal. If you choose to live in a large city anywhere in the world, you'll face the same issues. Those of us that are looking for a slower, better quality of life have chosen the Maritime Provinces.

We have ludicrous traffic and lots of guns here too. I chuckled at this thread when I read that Halifax doesn't have any no go areas, when we were there we were warned constantly to avoid some bit (the north end, maybe). We went there of course, and it did seem rough, rather like the Regents Park area of Toronto. According to the original post the merit of Halifax is mainly that there aren't any Asians. I think that's true, but it's something I noticed down there as a dreary lack of diversity. I thought the original post was a nasty piece of racism. It's not reasonable to suppose that, if people don't respond to a post they agree with it. Sometimes it's just not worth arguing.

Actually, I just did a double take. If I was asian I would be really offended at that post It makes me laugh when people hate immigrants or minorities and then become immigrants themselves in another country.

I suppose there is a difference between being an expat and being an immigrant. I knew plenty of people in Oakville (Brits and Germans, mainly) that may as well never have left home. Some had been there for quite a long time.

Totally agree.
It seems to me that there are quite a few posts in this forum that the BNP would be pleased to see...not pleasant reading & a shock really - I would have imagined that the brits moving to canada would be the more liberal & open-minded types...obviously not the case for some.
I am moving to Montreal in less than 2 weeks having lived in 'multi-cultural' manchester for the past 4 years. One of the reasons I have chosen to move there is to learn about a different culture! I hope (and expect) to experience & enjoy the multi-culture of Montreal. I also hope that canadians will be tolerant of me, (-as an immigrant).

In Montreal you'll be fine. That's where my daughter fled when she couldn't take Halifax no more.

Its CITIES that are the same all over the world.
Country people are a different breed altogether.
We do have our problems, usually because of bored teenagers, but none of the hard stuff.

Would you be good enough to go back and actually read my original post? when you have, can you point me to where i said "there are no asians in Halifax"?
As for racism, yes i despise some asians, just as i despise some white people and once again, if you actually read what i wrote then you will see that i said i have worked for and with o lot of asians that were ok. just for your benefit, here is everything i mentioned about asians.
"We were sick of no-go areas for white people in asian areas.
We were sick of a nurse (Sheila) in uniform getting her car stoned and spat on by asians, just for doing her job in "there" area. If this makes me sound raceist, too damn right i am, but only towards the ignorant ones that do the above. A cliche i know, but i worked with, worked for, and knew a lot of asians that were ok."
