Only the uncooked ones lol you get both in Australia as well. Plenty of frozen pies here at the moment, the shelves in Tescos freezers are buckling under the weight of Christmas fayre.

'Haven't come across the uncooked ones here yet and I've had a pretty wide sampling, but yeah...

Absolutely, I bet the shops are in the UK full swing and piled high with all the Christmas fayre. That's certainly something I miss. Especially things that here in Australia they don't seem able to come close to or match. Things like gammon.

I now know of two butchers in the North shore/Northern Beaches who do gammon- just picked up a 3 kg joint ready for Xmas Eve.

My understanding is that they used to be called cracker bon bons in the UK many years ago. Cracker took over but not in Australia

It seems that they were. Interesting history about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_cracker

That's something that I find is common here in Australia: names of things and cultural norms that the UK has moved on from but which still exists here in Australia. The saying that Australians are more British than the British is often quite true.

You know you're in Australia when ---

a truck comes by, and comes by, and comes by . . . or when you want to pass it you need miles of clear road ahead.

Yesterday I mentioned to a young woman taxi driver about Christmas in July in Australia, and she thought I was kidding! Mulled wine is certainly better in the winter than in the summer.
