I am definitely an alcoholic according to this site - strange

I think 'tests' like this are bullshit even if entertaining or amusing. Many people go thru periods of alcohol dependency in their lives for various reasons without actually ever being a true alcoholic.

I'd like to know just when this test was developed and by whom and what their qualifications are exactly.

Mine are: Dip Mental Health Work
Bach. Social Sciences

It doesn't take a degree to come to the same conclusions

Alcohol dependency is probably a bit strong for the kinds of people this test is aimed at 'outing'. I like to have a drink on a weekend when I'm not up for work next morning but I don't get the shakes and sweats when I don't have one. I was on 24-hr call the week before last and was happily dry for 8 days. Therefore I'm note an alcoholic.

AFIK an alcoholic is someone who can't go without a drink without some side-effects - the shakes, cold sweats or whatever. An alcoholic will be at work waiting for the clock to reach 5 (or whatever) so they can get out and crack a bottle. Or possibly they won't go to work because they haven't sobered up from the night before and will have another bottle for brekky.

This survey is endemic of modern life. There are so many people out there who's job it is to analyse and cure us, they spend their time trying to brand everybody as something or other to justify their existence.

True but by being prepared to list what qualifications I do have I can at least add 'serious' weight to the thread from a 'professional' perspective.

Fair enough, it wasn't a dig.

I was just stating what a crap survey it was, though posting it here does throw up (sic) some interesting questions on people's attitudes to drink.

Thanks.I do realise you weren't having a dig. I agree it's a crap survey. Very rigid, limited and judgemental. I would seriously hope no actual organisation involved in the treatment of problem drinkers would pay any attention to it.

I agree with all that say it is crap.
I only posted it as a laugh and as said before it is classic American therapy. I personally have not taken it seriously.
