Same here in hertfordshire, south east England. I came back from Brisbane in April after having lived there for 18 months and we've had a good spring and summer here. Most days have been 22c or over + some hotter days which is rather pleasant. Not many days when I haven't been in shorts and t shirt. Most definately has been a south/north/west split though. Sure we've had some rain but can't really say its ruined anything and it's meant that the countryside is looking wonderful. I've enjoyed being in the sunshine and played my sport more here in the UK in the last 4 months than the whole of the 18 months I was in Australia where it was too hot in spring and summer to go out and you can't enjoy the light nights

I agree.
I'm not defending it as such, just saying it as it has been this summer contrary to what others are experiencing. The more sensible amongst us accept that the UK has wide and varied weather patterns even the delinquent punk admitted it earlier in the thread
What these people dont get is that we LIKE the changes in weather. When you have extended family and loved ones you get on with and care about, you dont NEED to justify your happiness with the amount of sunshine
I am really looking forward to walks in the woods with the kids in wellies when i am strong enough.
Cant wait for bonfire night. We always have a party
I am looking forward to fun in the snow IF we are lucky enough to get some.
I am looking forward to a decent christmas for the first time in years.
But i wont be looking forward to it any less than i have enjoyed the summer fun with family in the outdoor pool, the days out, garden bbqs and so on in the summer!
Some people on this forum cant stand the fact that some of us are HAPPY in UK and dont need sunshine to make us that way.
I suppose had i alienated myself from most of my family and friends and had nothing to do but stare out the window at the weather then yes, i probably wouldnt like it, but Britain is geared up for the weather and offers alternatives depending on the weather
Sorry if you dont like us posting our version of life and how we live it. Tough tittie. I am entitled to post here as much as everyone else. Who knows, it might make some people yet to go think about what they are leaving behind

I guess its the same as you having to endure weeks of being cooped up inside with the air con beating to oblivion, endless sleepless nights of sweating, getting out of bed at 6am in a bath of sweat, not being able to go outside between 10am-3/4pm,having to eat salads and bbq's for 3 months, making a quick exit from the air cond house,to car to shopping mall.Hope the tv is good for you over summer Hutch!
I don't need to sprout off "propaganda"I'm just telling it like it is.You sound like you miss the UK?By the way how's that job going?

Generally the weather is more pleasant in Australia. So what! I never had to endure those caravan holidays mentioned by Hutch-God it must have been tough!
I would rather have the seasons with the cold and grey skies than have to live in Aus.
I wonder if most of the defenders of Aus could actually afford to go back, to the UK for whatever reason.
Just a thought .
Once again i'm sure some of you actually do prefer it.

And lots of people have their family and friends around them and don't need to rely on the UK for this experience.

It's normally understood to be the other way around...
Gee - you lot complaining!! The most invidious thing is the way people resort to the old - "you must be making up how happy you are"...."bet you love it really". I don't think people are as stupid as that...or when someone points the finger, there are 3 pointing back at themselves...

Yes, this is arse-talk, like you say. Australia cities have excellent art galleries and the restaurants - and service - are superior to anything I have encountered in the UK. Depends where you live though - Woop Woop hasn't got an art gallery yet.

Caveat - when someone who is a specialist domain expert in these things says that they preferred the Royal Filly how's your father in London over the one in Melbourne for some very specific reasons like the size of it, where they are travelling that year - etc etc then I can understand someone favouring the European scene to the Sydney or Melbourne one. If a particle physicist says they are returning to London or California so that they work with a particular person I can understand that too.
But for most expats - you can do your thing here in the Antipodes...I know many Australians who take their interest far more seriously than many an expat would and are quite happy to ply their trade down under..

I think the term "washout" has been used to describe the summer in large areas of the UK. One thing I have noticed though is that people who want to go back to the UK or are already in the UK seem to agree it's been a "great summer" even though July was the wettest on record.
Or "beauty is bought by judgement of the eye, Not utter'd by base sale of chapmen's tongues" as some famous guy once wrote.
