Dodgy meals, aside from the spud.

Flew certain asian airline, who put us up in a nice hotel overnight for the connection with meals.

Go to a very swish dining room and thinking this will be fab..... we get a leftover korean wedding banquet, re- heated just enough to ferment the e-coli...

I am sure the stewed meat was dog, kids and I wouldn't touch it, luckily as passsengers who did had a horrendous night on the toilet.

Pots of mysterious sea cucumber things, pickled penis the kids decided were interesting, like raw aubergine in vinegar with a warty feel in the mouth, one bit of that and we were off to the cake..

Surprisingly this was OK, nice almond cake, all we had to eat till the breakfast the next morning. Very few passengers appeared for that, most I assume still on the toilet, the others too scared to come down:lol: but it was pretty standard hotel breakfast.

I went to a chinese in Glenelg with friends we waited about an hour to be served meat balls for a starter that were still frozen solid in the centre the waitress couldnt understand why i wouldnt eat them she took them away but no apology or anything so we walked out!

The butter chicken at bondi was my first intro to curry here in Australia it was yellow, watery and tasteless that went in the bin!

The worst meal I ever had was in a pub near Worcester, a watery 'meat' pie and chips. Ironically one of the absolute best meals I have ever had was in the same general area, a pie filled with huge chunks of steak.

Close run thing between The Fig at Scarborough WA and a pub on the canal near Crick in Northants. Probably the Crick pub really only because scampi was on my foods to try list during our trip back to the UK in 2010. I was very disappointed. The pub only redeemed itself by the fantastic creme brûlée they had for pudding!!

Hmm...I wouldn't say it's the worst, but just value for money wise, I have to say the pasta dish I had once at a hotel in Westport Co.Mayo. It was just plain fettuccine alfredo and was 35 euro (at 2006 rates). Not the worst meal, but definitely underwhelming.

Honorable mention to the spag bol I had at a backpackers restaurant in Cairns back in 1990. Note to self: if it comes out of the warmer at room temp, it's probably not a good idea to eat it, no matter how cheap it is.

An omlette I had on a small island in the Philippines in 2004. I was up all night spewing and I swear to god I will never eat another omlette as long as I live.

Just seeing someone else eat an omlette is enough to make me go green still even now.

And I missed a day's diving because of it.

Someone laughed and said it ridiculous when I said I preferred Australian pub food to UK pub food. I find it fairly consistent.

Your story reminds me - whilst there is good - there is also disaster.
I'm not a big fan of pies, ploughmans and stuff like that.

What's the go with Ploughmans, it has to be the most overrated 'meal' ever. Slab of cheese, lump of bread, some pickle and lettuce and maybe some ham if you're lucky. Why??????? It's not a meal, it's a let's clear out the fridge moment.

Maybe - I remember liking them as a boy - as a snack, no less - to go with a hamburger and chips...:p
