Who knows "The meaning of life"?

Re: Who knows "The meaning of life"?
That's you as an individual. The aim of the human race (or any species) is to procreate. I don't think there is a purpose of life but as we find ourselves here we aim to continue the phenomenon, as a whole. I'm afraid I haven't made a personal contribution either.

Re: Who knows "The meaning of life"?
Can we keep it clean please, my 8 year old ask me this questions out of blue mum "what is the meaning of life?" this morning when I was driving him to school.
I told him I'll have answer for him when I pick him, so all helps would be appreciated.
I thought about it I really dont know, strange questions children ask their parents, he said he asked his teacher yesterday & she didnt know either.

Tell your son it's all a lot easier when you become an existentialist.

Re: Who knows "The meaning of life"?
On the subject of Catholic schools. My step daughter went to a catholic primary school and of course did her confirmation after weeks of instruction and filling in books etc. Anyway, at easter there was a religious advert on tv and Jesus was carrying the cross. Step daughter turned to me and said, "I don't know what that is he's carrying but it looks really heavy"
The meaning of life...to Love (IMO). Everyone has a different purpose for being here no two of us the same. And no I'm not religious at all or a bible basher. I do believe tho that we don't go through everything that we do for nothing.(IMO)

Not sure if it was be-littling as such, more a tongue in cheek generalisation. Lots of schools, organisations, clubs have skeletons in their cupboards.

Re: Who knows "The meaning of life"?
Life means providing a way for DNA to replicate itself; this is the only constant among all forms of life whether it be animal, vegetable, bacteria or a virus. "The selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins explains it really well but for children an adult would have to read it first then explain the basics to them expanding it as they grow up. Most children can understand quite advanced concepts if given the chance and a bit of encouragement.

BTW for your son's interest: If we could travel at the speed of light (300,000km per sec); it would take us 90,000 years to cross our galaxy. There are over a billion galaxies in our universe; and it is now thought that other universes exist.
With those odds, I really do think WE ARE NOT ALONE !!!
