Didn't tell people exactly when we were flying, had a big party 3 days before we flew but everyone thought it was about 2 weeks before so thought they would see us again before we left so no tears, everyone just got drunk! Text everyone at the airport saying sorry but didn't want to do all the goodbye's and didn't want anyone at the airport. Nobody was offended and completely understood!
Ha love it, great plan.

Thanks, I didn't like lying to everyone especially at the party as everyone was saying they would pop round before we left!! But I definately think it was better than crying for 2 weeks!

When we left the UK we were too busy to get excited about it - we just had to drive to various far-flung locations over the last few weekends and say Au Revoir to people.
Leaving Singapore was actually harder, despite having no family there.
One party to drink up the booze, one champagne brunch because...well because it's a Singapore institution and had to be done... and we thought that was it...then people came round to the house whilst we were being packed up (and brought gin, tonic, glasses, ice, lemon
I'll be eternally grateful for that)...then we made the mistake of casually telling people that we were in so-and-so hotel and thought we might do Afternoon Tea on the last day before we went to the airport. Ended up with about 30 of us and quite a few tears.
We had more farewell gigs than Frank Sinatra.
