It was more to do with the Romans, who liked to integrate their new religion of Christianity with the enslaved country's religion of choice.

Many Christian events were shoe horned into existing festival times to ease the transition from 'heathen' to 'civilised'

I know this has been mentioned before but whats wrong with aussie fish and chips???I personally prefer them to the Uk's.I had the most yummiest fish and chips when I was back in Oz last May and they were cheap too!Yes I even had chicken salt!;)We had to wait a fairly long time but atleast they were fresh and not been sat on the bain marie for hours!

I hate aussie chips. Well perhaps thats a bit strong but I dislike everything about them. The fish at Mooloolaba spit is fantastic - straight off the boat. But its not the same as british F&C - different and not really to be contrasted.

Things I dislike
>>waiting for them - to me F&C is something I grab on a sat pm because I am in a rush not wait 30 mins for.
>> I like real potatoes.
>> I like the way they half cook them all in wales, then recook them and leave them to stand.
>> I love the brown vinegar soaked in

They taste completely different. I hate chicken salt - despise it. I am not keen on salt either although you cant beat sitting on the beach at Porthcawl with a bag of chips covered with salt and vinegar.

I miss all my fish and chip times, my dad and I were big fans.

Hopefully your Porthcawl chips were from Beales? Best fish and chips in the world and just round the corner from my great grandma's house. Still have extended family in Porthcawl and loved going there. Ah happy memories.......

You should have all learnt to pack properly if you're missing stuff from the UK. ;)

It was actually the decision of the Christian rulers who became heirs of the empire after pagan Rome had fallen; men like Constantine and Theodosius I. Some of them were based in Rome; others were based in the eastern wing of the empire. Not all of them were Romans; Constantine himself was a native of a region that is now part of Bulgaria.
