We must be kindred spirits - my mother has just sent my Christmas box chuff full of Bisto Gravy and Walkers Crisps (Smokey Bacon and Pickled onion flavour)

I'm in heaven right now - and yes, of course I've started eating them!!

Nah. With most of Aus on the coast, the fish is fresh but here, chippies sell fish stuffs, like prawns, mussels etc. No pies, burgers etc and the chips come altogether as in $6 worth please. You get accustomed to it.

Not down in the Illawarra though...

I had a strange longing today for an M&S Chicken salad sub roll... and I rarely ever think about food from the UK. Gave that up long ago.

I would agree with the posters who say Christmas is rubbish compared to a UK one... but that's probably because my expectations of what Christmas 'should be' are based on 40 odd years of Christmas UK style.

My expectations of christmas fall every year regardless of what country I'm in simply because I always hope it will be something it never is. I'm used to thinking christmas is a waste of time now

Yeah I'm getting more and more like that. As my kids got older Christmas became less and less significant.
I really do think that it is much more low key here than the UK though. Much less emphasis placed on it and its a Hell of a lot quieter in the shops as a result... or perhaps that's just where I am?.

It is quieter here. I think christmas here is more like christmas in the States, less of a big deal. I think it was Hutch who suggested that Christmas is as big as it is in the UK because of the long drawn out winter, we need something to plan for and get excited about in the middle. I think he has a point. Here it's in the middle of the six/eight week school holidays and so it's not so mega. Suits me actually being as we're not religious, it always seems a tad hypocritical to celebrate it at all.
