We had to wait for the army to clear the roads around us. We managed to get a camping stove and eventually found a generator to hire, then the power came back. We bought a generator after that and it got used a fair few times.
I seem to remember something about the stock market as well about that time

There were many like that. Some even crashed down through the roof taking the ceiling & the floor below with them. Scary stuff, one job the kids were in bunk beds & the stack came down between the bed & door. Twin beds & one would have had a couple of tonnes of rubble on it.

Remember it well all the houses in our street got damage except for ours, we didn't even know about the storm until OH was stopped by our next door neighbour that there are no trains running.

We had a second floor flat and the entire front was glass. I spent most of the night trying to sleep whilst getting up every hour and watching the glass panels flex and wobble. Husband was driving home from Teeside, seemed to miss it all. Probably pissed.

Yup. The place I ended up working at a week later, were going to get shot of about 200 employees that morning. Couldn't do it as none of HR or the said employees were able to get in so they were saved for the weekend.
I got to work on the Monday to get an earful from my boss for not turning up on the day. Told him there was no train, and when the Police tell me not to drive I tend to take notice. He, very snottily, told me he'd driven in (only prawn who'd turned up) just as the CEO came in and told him he was a dick for even thinking about it. It was the final straw and he had my resignation on his desk at the end of the day.

at home, no damage despite a builder telling us 15 years earlier when we moved into the house that the whole roof needed replacing, and would be blown off in the first storm that hit it, it was still in place 18 years later..
Where we walked our dogs was a forestry commission pine forest, and some 80% in some areas was flattened, shallow roots and too close together, so you got the domino effect.

On the Friday I went for a drive with my g/f. This was in Somt, so we didn't get the full brunt of, but it was one of 'those drives' The freakin earth moved that night
I was playing in a band at the time and me, the k/b player and bass player had tix for the Wembley Guitar Show (Arena) and miraculously we made it up there ok. IIRC Michael Jackson was playing at Wembley Stadium that night.
