Choices seem to be:

Samsung Galaxy SII
Apple iPhone 3 or 4
Nexus S
HTC Desire
Nokia 5230

Any opinions?
Don't forget the Galaxy Nexus - guaranteed ICS support.

Avoid Nokia - busy committing suicide.

Avoid apple - overpriced and underperforming.

Lots of HTC phones, probably better options than the Desire.

Suggest you look for dual core, >4 inch display, >1Ghz processor, enough memory that its not an issue, decent social support structure.

I'm an Apple fan too. All my computer equipment is apple too so it all works seamlessly together.

Tiddly, if I recall you are a Mac girl too so I think under the circumstances it is a no brainer.

The second time was more of a dunk, and that got left in pieces on his car seat in the sun for a day and was fine that night.

That's a great point. Take the phone apart and seal it in a zip lock bag with some silica gel sachets or some of that stuff that people use for dehumidifying wardrobes for a couple of days. It may well do the trick - it certainly did for my laptop when my roof leaked earlier in the year.

Vodafone are probably the worse provider in OZ, go to another provider or use two tin cans and some string for a better reception.

In the past I have always gone with the phone with the best specs...after never quite bothering to get them to do what they "could" do, I now go for the one that integrates the best out of the box...specs/schmecks...easy integration is king...iPhone for me. Maybe I'm just lazy.

Ah, the "It Just Works' argument ... Very compelling when all you want to do is use the thing.

Yeah, to me it's in the results...for the first time I actually have photos, music and videos flying around the house and outside between devices, computers, speakers and tv's...it's a lovely little apple playground now where before it was a wasteland of study draws full of fastest processors and most open configurable devices. And I'd barely even looked at Apple before let alone plugged them...

I bought an iPad recently and have been playing around with the apps that were already compatible with it, it's great fun.

The apps are the thing, quality stuff like GarageBand, TouchAble and Animoog isn't going to reach any flavour Android device. I have a HP Touchpad too running both webOS (dodgy) and Android (amusing to play with).

I am basically an OS Whore and will run anything if it does the job.

My last phone (the wet one) was a Nokia...was great.
I don't know what the last comment means... what's a 'decent social support structure'... I just want to make calls, send a few kinky texts to my bloke and snap photographs with the camera.

Shoot, I have a life. The thing is as dead as a dodo, after rice, silica, hairdryer... I can't pull it apart because it's fixed together with those little annoying screws that only a screwdriver in China can fit. It's hexagonal or something.

Well they were until about three weeks ago when this little symbol appeared on my phone... I can't remember what it was now but other Vodafone users reported the same. Since then, brilliant everything... My kids all are on Vodafone so it would make sense for them to be able to call me for free on their phones, so I'll stick with them I think.
Someone has to.

Apparently packing in dry rice in a warm place helps dry out moisture....
