What the hell are EMO's?
 

What the hell is an EMO (could possibly have spelt it wrong)! I'm thinking it's on similar lines to the 'Hoodie' culture? I thought at first, when I saw it being used on one of the threads it was something to do with Emu's :confused_smile: Now, how stupid do you think I feel and why the heck did I even admit that....must be the wine:D

No, emos (yoof culture) are almost opposite to hoodies/chavs....

think of shoegazers combined with goths with a smidgen of punk and a whole boatload of self-pity.

i had the strangest experience of having the ' emo' culture explained to me by a seventy yr old lady who runs a punk shop. turns out her daughter in law moved from melbourne to yeovil, and we're going the opposite way.

Sorry- I didn't explain myself well...Must be the wine :D I meant to say that I thought it might be a trend like Hoodies, Goth etc Thanks to everyone for explaining though - I'll look out for sign's in my Young uns!!

My step daughter and nephew both have the look and listen to the music
but no self harm thankfully :blink:
It reminds me of me and my goth / rock leanings as a teen.

Yeah - I was into 'Two Tone' for about a day, even got a dress that I never wore as I discovered horses soon after, much to my Mum's relief! :)

I was a bit of a goth, but not by choice! I naturally have straight dark hair and I keep it over-the-shoulder length - that up against my pale skin (probably due to lack of sun but hey that's another thread:lol: ) made me look a bit like wednesday adams. Used to constantly get told I looked ill - nice people!

My hair was jet black. lots of black eyeliner, black clothes etc.
My nephew has just dyed the ends of his hair blue. i think it looks great and so does his Mum. He's 15.
I got grounded at 15 for piercing my ears twice and spraying some Sun -in
in my hair :rofl:

On my local lookout a few months ago, this incredibly huge American lady with a Bwaston (Boston) accent said 'Excuse me, miss... but what are Em-wo's?'

I was completely confused... didn't get it at all and asked her to describe what she meant.

She described a tall flightless bird, and the oil you get from them (Em-wo oil) which is good for rheumatism.

My hair is dark purple with dark pink through it - goes up in a quiff (although generally I can't be bothered so it just looks like a short crop). dh has a black flat top with a pillarbox red streak through. Dh still goes to quite a few gigs, is just planning going to the festival in Callela (sp?) in August. I don't get out quite as much (because of leaving my youngest who is still breastfed, so I only manage gigs close to home with the minimal alcohol consumption). More into psychobilly than punk, but we all have rather eclectic tastes in this family.

And to think, someone called me a chav (by inference) on another thread because I have a picture of one of my kids as an avatar :rofl: (so very, very far from the truth in social background, attitude, etc.)

I brought a copy my favourite Smiths album on tape as my 'new' car only has tape player... haven't listened to it in 20 years as I only had it on vinyl..

I wont be listening to it for another 20 years if I can help it...

I was a goth 20 - 25 yrs ago, I got over it but sadly the goth gene has passed to my 2 daughters. The boys appear to be ok. Is there a test for this? becasue if I have anymore children I really don't know if I can handle another Goth...:confused:

The Smiths have got absolutely nothing to do with the Emo knobs.
They need to get their own music!
