I am. You know I'm into the adopt-a-hero-rat stuff. Can't remember who put me onto it but it was someone on here, Wol possibly
Edited - it was Wol - the thread is here - http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=734116. Rats that detect landmines.

I smile at strangers (often they think I'm a weirdo) and let cars in when theres a jam. I try to do random and unexpected nice things for people when the opportunity arises. It feels good.
I go out of my way (probably too far) to please my family and have an uncontrollable urge to be kind to animals.
I am aware I am a better person than I used to be.
I aim to warn as many people as possible that they would regret moving to Australia.

I let people walk all over me and smile while they do it.
Apart from that, not a lot really. Too busy with work and kids to volunteer my time, and I don't have any money to give anyone.
I did look into volunteering to work in the homeless shelter tomorrow - but they only want money and not helpers, so can't do that.

You and me both - makes them feel good at least

The homeless shelter thing seems to be quite widespread, and its a bit like a lot of the appeals after the flooding here - too many volunteers but not enough cash.

I like to hope that I'm a better person than I used to be, even though some people are hard to convince

A large part of my wages seems to go back to my sister's kids now, stuff like phone contracts, my sis would have to sacrifice something else to afford it, so if I can help a bit she's only too grateful.

I helped him out last year when I visited and really enjoyed it.

I like to think that I am generally a nice person and try and be pleasant to people I know and dont know.Normally at this time of year I would have been volunteering at Vinnies but couldnt due to my trip to Ireland to visit my parents. While my parents were sick in the hospice I also used to pop in to see an old lady in one of the wards that I had never met before for a chat to see how she was.She had no children so didnt have many visitors. When my parents passed away she sat with me crying and holding my hand.As I left she wasnt doing well.

I hassle politicians and governments to embarrass them enough to release prisoners who shouldn't be imprisoned.
Does that help?

I’m currently second officer at our local rural brigade. I give up my free time to fight bushfires, attend traffic accidents & assist urban units in the event of a property/structure fire. I give up an evening each week for training nights & usually 2 or 3 weekends a year to attend/assist running training courses. This year I’ve attended over 20 single incidents from small roadside fires to vast out of control area burns. I’ve been away on a couple of pretty intense week-long strike teams. A strike team is a group of volunteers picked from a region to attend some of the bigger fires we get here in QLD or to provide relief cover for local crews in high impact areas. Bloody hard work sometimes, it’s good to give a little back though. There’s no pay its 100% voluntary.
I also volunteer to work 2 evenings a week at our local community club, usually a Thursday & Friday evening. It also used to be 100% voluntary, now we are “given†a carton of beer for 2 x 6hr shifts lol.
Something else I’m involved in with our fishing club is the “take a kid fishing†project that attempts to teaches kids about the environment & educates them about pollution etc.
Add that to all the time & effort running our own business takes & I’m pretty much booked up. There’s hardly any time left for COD on the X-box

I dont think I do make a difference at the moment to be shamefully honest but I hope that will change next year.

I look after sick people and nurse them back to health, i look after the dying and help ensure their transition from this life to what ever comes afterwards is dignified, i am part of a team that actively saves lives using technology, learning and knowledge... i look after the families of these people and give them comfort, hope or a physical shoulder to cry on. I wipe the blood from wounds.
I absorb and diffuse other peoples anger and comfort them in despair, I clean the shit off of the bottoms of people who cant do it for themselves, I rub your back whilst you're vomiting, holding your hair out of the way. I feed you... I bring you the medications that will make your suffering easier. Or make you well again
I start my work when all sane people are still in bed or about to go to bed and am availlable 24/7/365
I wash the bodies of your loved ones who have just passed over so that when you see them next they appear clean and peaceful.
I sit by the bed of those who have no one in life and In dying
I look after other peoples loved ones at special times of the year, like christmas, so they know their loved ones are in safe hands... Whilst my own family have to celebrate alone without me.
I am a nurse.
