Didn't get been or beef- she changed it to pork. I managed to eat some of it without belching or having raging indigestion. Think the champagne helped it to slip down. Even got OH to eat one sprout!!

Doc is referring me for a semi-urgent gastroscopy. She isn't concerned about my lipids, so stuff that in your pipe and smoke it mr neurologist- she doesn't want me on statins, but does want me to eat more protein. Tonight I'm going to try to have a small piece of steak. All I've managed today is a banana, a small bowl of rice porridge and a few grapes. I have to graze and eat protein rich snacks. Nuts. (I've been eating more of those recently which is why my weight isn't plummeting any more.)

Bother. 49.8kg this morning despite having a steak last night.
At least today I decided to have my blood test a week early- came home and had some chocolate, and am cooking cauliflower cheese for tea!!

Forgot to say I appear to have shrunk 1.5cm since my height was measured last year. Means my BMI isn't so bad, but not sure why I'm shrinking - apart from old age.

Just had the doctor on the phone....she is concerned my white cell count is only 2.3 with neutrophils of 0.79. I am also anaemic, probably because I'm not eating much red meat. Despite cutting out almost everything from my diet, my cholesterol hasn't gone down- it is up 0.1 at 5.6 with LDL of 3.5 which is a bit over normal range.

What on earth am I going to do now??

So many different specialists saying don't eat this, or arguing over medication (GP, gastrologist and cardiologist versus neurologist) and I'm down to 49.6kg despite eating a bit of steak and upping the nut snacks.

Feeling fed up, worried and bony.

Can you get an appointment to go in and as where you go next. I have just done the GP, specialist, another specialist, scans, MRI, bloods and still dont have any answers. It is frustrating beyond belief. You dont realise how so till you experience it.

The gluten free is great help, but I had half a italian bread thing at lunch and instantly ( to the point where friends were laughing ) had a 6 month baby belly.

Stress also compounds it, find the more I worry the worse it gets, try over the weekend to only do stuff that relaxes you.

Old GP, blunt aussie doc, even swears while consulting, he is a bit rough but a good doctor, told me when I was going though the waiting lists (for public or private specialists ) to just go to ER, reckons its the only way to get things done. Not sure it would work in my area, I had a 5 day wait for surgery after ER, but depending on what the symptoms are it could speed things up.

Well I have been on Nexium for a week now, and the pain has reduced considerably. I have managed to eat some more, so have maintained 49.8 kgs. At least it is better than losing more. I've even started to feel a bit hungry at times!! However, I feel quite nauseous after taking it for an hour or two, so breakfast is usually 10am instead of 7am, which screws with the rest of the day. I'm also keeping a food diary.

Still not heard from the hospital. Will have to chase them up if I haven't heard by friday.

Can you not just have something like Sustagen Hospital Formula to up your caloric intake? It's gluten free and will surely help with the weight loss.

The cardiologists I work for also say that cholesterol is not the only marker of cardiac risk. Has your cardiologist assessed you on the Framingham risk assessment calculator? My cholesterol is consistently above 6, but with few other cardiac risk factors I'm in the low risk group so have not been prescribed a statin.

I have few other risk factors, other than my father having had 3 heart attacks and one quintuple emergency bypass before age 50 (and another aged 55), and everyone in my family having high cholesterol and on statins- which my sister and brother stopped taking without telling the doctors (!) due to nasty side effects.

OH was threatened with statins due to his cholesterol being 6.8 at the last test, with LDL of 5.0. However, when he pointed out to the doctor that it was actually getting lower (had been over 7) due to new diet and exercise regime, they are giving him another 2 months to get it down. Meanwhile we are waiting to go to the lipid clinic for DD who has cholesterol of over 8.0 and LDL of 6.5.

So, I'm the healthy one!!!

(Though famous last words was down to 49.5kg this morning.)

Update.... still nothing from hospital and they don't answer the phone!!

Had got up to 51kg, but back down to 49.8 this am. Finished the Nexium a few days ago. Might have to get another pack. I'm eating more than I was, so no idea what is going on.
