Yes. Or no. HTH ;)

There's no right or wrong thing to do. There's a process to go through and a new place to live. Whether you enjoy the ride or not, it's still an adventure. And the experience will be useful; one way or the other. Try not to worry about the outcome and put pressure on yourself - just go with the flow and know that whatever happens in future, you've got more courage and determination for trying than most people. That already sets you up for great success, however things turn out in Aus :)

(That sounds way more wanky than it's intended to be. :o)

I don't necessarly agree with that. I think it takes a lot of courage to say that your dreams have changed and you're no longer the same person as the one who applied for the visa. There's nothing saying you have to act on the visa, just because you have it. There's been at least one person on BE (that I can think of right now) who's decided not to go after being granted their visa.

Hope you find your answers, sit down and discuss it and see what the outcomes are ;)

totaly agree here. if he is having serious doubts it could be doomed before it starts.

talking is the answer, you need to listne to what he says with complete understanding. it may be frustrating to think it may all end. but, he is only trying to do what he sees best for the future.

by the time tomorrow comes he will probably be ok again.

good luck

Re: 'Are we doing the right thing???'

I think like most ppl going to oz they are at a comftable stage of life
ie nice' house, car not rich or poor. Then we have to give every thing up to go to the other side of the world. With no job(for most) house not always any family and the big unknow. Every one at some stage has or will feel the same.

Our worries usally is what if it dont work out .and carn't get back on uk proppety ladder.I have gone through this also and my feeling is it if we do come back to a lot less It wont be the end of the world. And myself and family would have grown in the experience of it all.

But if we dont go we may regret it later on down the line when its too late to do ant thing about.

mandy we are the same,,not rich ,not poor but i am looking to move to a house where i am going to end my days,,we all havent obviously found what we are looking for or we would not be going to oz...

its o.k to come on here and have a laugh and a joke, but as it get nearer it get a little scarey,,,god knows what it would be like if we did not have each other to lean on now and again...

once you get as far as we have there is only one way to see if the waters warm enough and thats to jump in..if it doesnt work ,we will get out dry our selves down and try again...nothings easy in life ,,,no ones going to tell you everythings going to be o.k..its only ourselves who will be able to tell that in a couple of years or so,,,

oh well folks ,,only time will tell...

Absolutely agree

Life is too short to wonder and worry - try it and see - thats all you can do. At the end of the day you reap what you sow - sit back on your laurels and you gain nothing - put the effort in and you will get back the rewards. If its not what you hoped then you have lost time and money - but you have gained experiences.

Im not near enough to panick yet but Im sure I will when I am - all you can do is support one another and be happy.

I was about the most pro aussie move person migrating I think. Even I had moments when I wondered. Of course everone is going go go through the same. Your above to leave everything you have known for most of your life, a comfort zone which is hard to step out of.

You'll never know until you try. Lifes full of what ifs and if you dont do it then you'll be sitting there saying "what would it be like if we had have gone. Did we do the right thing by staying".

Really, my point is that everyone going through the migration process will have doubts, worries and such. Its called being human.

its the waiting that gets you, gives you longer to reassess your motives for going away from the initial excitement of yippeee lets do it, lets emigrate.
im still in the skills assesment stage (10 week wait for nurses at the mo) and im starting to wonder if im mad, but i still want to go.

Re: 'Are we doing the right thing???'

There are two types of questions:

What the hell am I doing?

Do I still want to do this?

The two are entirely different. The former is normal and natural in the face of the great unknown. I'd be worried if people about to emigrate didn't ask themselves this. The latter indicates that perhaps you no longer want to make the move - for whatever reason. It's a much more serious question.

So long as you're only asking questions of the former nature, you're normal.

Here endeth the lesson. That's $200, thanks. ;)

After 23 months from start to grant ....I really want to go now!!!! I have asked that question everysingle day for those 23 months and will probably keep doing so for a long time yet! If we stayed, I'm sure I'd still be asking exactly the same question!

I can answer more questions, but the rate increases.

Should I set up a premium rate helpline, I wonder ...?

We have had some "are we doing the right thing" over the last year and should we do a reccie as we had never been to OZ.
We are here now on our Reccie and love it, all worry's about doing the right thing have gone and I have had a couple of job offers which was my biggest worry. Just need to get our house sold and we can move out here.
