We are doing the big trip round Oz!
#1
We originally came here on 457 in Sept 2007, then moved on to PR and citizenship earlier this year.
About 18 months or so, my wife and I decided we wanted to take career breaks and spend twelve months or so travelling around Australia. Due to various reasons (mainly changes my work, my family visiting us & deciding to sell the house rather than rent it out), we have kept putting off our plans. About ten weeks ago, we decided that the time was now right and so we put our house up for sale four weeks ago and it sold within a few hours…
We complete on the sale of the house on 30th November and therefore I have advised work that my last day of employment will be 23rd November.
Basically, we are putting all our possessions in store and setting off in our campervan (RV) for what we hope will be a great adventure. We are going to travel clockwise round the coast and if we can, pick up some casual work on the way to help fund trips and excursions. We hope that on our trip we will find somewhere that we will decide to live at the end, at this stage, we probably have in mind that it will be a major regional town but are keeping all our options open…
We have started a website www.travelsroundoz.com for our travels.
Getting a bit excited now!

Good luck and have fun! We'd love to do this one day and OH keeps eyeing up 4x4's and off roading caravans.
My friends son circumnavigated Oz by himself at the age of 21 in, I think it was a Ford camper and even crossed the Gibb River in it, towed across by some fellow travellers! I also have other friends who are planning on selling up, buying a motorhome and that will be it...pottering around the country!
I shall bookmark your page and see how you are getting on!

Sounds awesome. I notice that the red centre isn't on your route.

No, not at this stage. Already been to Ayers Rock and Coober Pedy by flying in. At this stage, doesn't justify the time/cost of fuel to go back. Our campervan cannot go off road, so we cannot do any tracks out there either.

We did something like this before we moved here permanently. We had an absolutely amazing time, and saw heaps of the country that we just don't find time to go and see when you live and work here and real life gets in the way.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we did

We would also love to do this one day. In the mean time I console myself by visiting this very handy website.

Yehp look forwards to reading this, So many different ways of doing this trip, so I'll be reading with great interest.
I've actually dont know personally many people that have done it the stock standard way with a motor home. Mostly 4WD's and the off road trailers or Station wagons and tents with 5 plastic containers on wheels in the back for His/hers/kitchen/tent and camping equip/Fridge freezer.... Sleep in car or cabins along the way...which is great for City exploring and now my most likely mode of transport.
Looking forwards to reading your adventures.
