I'll just buy another Bosch when this one wears out, so sign of that yet though:thumbup:.

How strange. I don't have any complaints, nor can I spell Miele.
My second Bosch needed repairing several times and the motor burnt out just before we left. I had it replaced and sold it with the house

Miele have such a huge reputation for being reliable and efficient, that the service people couldn't believe that there was something wrong with their machine. The national service manager even came and looked at it:blink:. I don't expect the Bosch to last a long time, but it works brilliantly for us and was a third of the price of the Miele we had and has a lot more programmes and options:thumbup:.

Interesting.... I'm about to replace the most reliable machine I've ever owned... It's 15 years old and looks very daggy now. However it hasn't missed a beat in all the time we've owned it. Thing is it's a top loader.. a 9 KG Whirlpool made in the good old USA. Gives your clothes a Guantanamo bay type workout and is probably just as secure, probably uses 3 times the amount of water that a front loader would use.

Because of owning this particular machine I've not given much thought to reliability.

Our F&P SmartDrive toploader lasted about 9 years with one repair, but I was happy when it finally died. I've never understood the Aussie fondness for toploaders:confused:.

I should add that our Miele dishwasher is about 8 years old and has never need servicing. It's survived 2 house moves without missing a beat:thumbup:.

I was once told by a service repair person that he recommends simpson. He says they're no more reliable than any other brand, they all are pretty unreliable unless you import or spend huge dollars. But simpson are fairly cheap to get fixed and the parts are readily available.

Thank god its not just me-I've just arrived in Sydney. I' ve used the toploader to do my washing and seriously all my clothes seemed to have stretched. I thought at first it was just me being a bit homesick cranky but now I've found this thread I don't feel so bad! ;)

Two tips that's I've learned from using a top loader:

1. Place each item of clothing in the machine in loose balls, resist the temptation to wrap the longer clothes around the paddle in any way.
2. Put the wash setting on delicate.

I've started doing these two things and found that the clothes come out just as fresh and clean but waaay less battered.

...Oh and welcome to Australia! :)

Are you eating properly?
You're not skimping on your daily intake I hope?

If anything I'm probably over doing the Smiths Salt and Vinegar crisps and Tim Tams whilst scavenging for a job! :o

We have a front loader Bosch. 2.5 years old and never had a problem. It's not a top of the range Bosch or anything, but it does the job perfectly.

We had a Whirlpool FL for 10 years until it finaly died... and now we have Bosch FL - 2 years so far.....

They both washed well - Bosch slightly better 'cos it has a faster spin speed so less drying required...

I'm pleased to report that it only took about 8 years to persuade my wife that she didnt need to put all her clothes into a sealed bag before putting them in the washing machine to stop them being destroyed! (She grew up with Top Loaders's destroying anything that wasnt protected when thrown in the washing machine - How the hell anything ever got clean when its washed in a bag is completely beyond me?!)

A sealed bag? Like plastic? Or one of those net/mesh bags? A lot of people wash their bras in a mesh bag because washing machines (front or top loader) aren't very gentle to the underwires.

I'm confused, are you talking about the bras or the washing machines?
