Default washing machine suggestions

afternoon,

Our washing machine is a load of shit. its a creaky old toploader that makes your clothes look really old after one go.

The clincher came when I asked my OH if the top she was wearing was the one we bought back in the UK four years ago, and she said she bought it the other week and put it through the machin once.

I was wondering whether anyone has any suggestions of what I might buy?

front or top, doesnt matter.

We've got a front-loader LG, not had any issues in 5 years of heavy use.

I lie, the door catch broke earlier this year, which I fixed for about a fiver.

Toploaders to be avoided, "Dancing In The Moonlight", ghastly song.

Depends on your priority. As far as I am aware (generally):

Front loaders are gentler on your clothes, use less water and energy, are better use of space (you can stack your dryer) and spin higher speed (so less dryer time needed).

However they are generally more expensive and have a longer wash cycle.

I have a top loader but aside from the fast cycle I don't really like it. Would go front loader next time.

I don't know why I know so much on this subject.

Got a Samsung 'Eco-bubble' last month. Seems fine, quiet, quick, reasonable price and they were offering $100 cash back as well.

Can you get AEG in Aus?

Had a one now (front loader washer/dryer) for eight years with not a spot of bother. Not cheap like but lasts.

Have never been anything but disappointed with the results from toploaders.

Have I really just typed that last line?

Not true about long wash cycles. Our Bosch has many programmes, including "refresh" and 15 mins express ones. Not expensive either, lots of bargains out there at the moment.

We've always had bad luck with WMs and are on our third in 7 years.

Got one of these 12 months ago

So far so good and the direct drive makes it really quiet compared to previous machines.

Sorry, I misrepresented my point; a standard cycle on a top loader will generally be shorter than a standard cycle on a front loader. Features like these short washes are also more prevalent on front loaders as well. Either way, even fewer reasons to buy a top loader then.

Front loader- we have a Bosch which has the 15 min cycle ideal for towels, as long as you spin them afterwards.

We have a Fisher & Paykel Aquasmart top-loader and it has been trouble-free for four years. It is rated at 3.5 stars (out of 5.0) for energy and 4 for water. Bought it from Retravision. Prior to this we've always owned front loaders. Can't see any difference in terms of machine wear on the clothes.

Yeah, I think we established that we had both just bought one on the last "washing machine thread"...... such exciting lives we lead.
