Thanks for that.
I have checked this website out already, and yes there are a few properties coming up with the cheaper prices, however like you said - i am not sure of the areas and what they are like - i'm guessing these properties are not in locations that would be practical for us...
It really is a bit of a shot in the dark for us....(as i expect it is for most people). We have never visited Australia and therefore can only judge places by research and what people like yourselves say.
I appriciate your help and advice. Will just keep researching....

Re: Wanted Dowunder, 5th Jan, 2009. New Series.
I do not remember this as a set of repeats - different, and I have to say much more amiable presenter. Apart from that I though the family on the first one today, the Williams I think there names are. They were just simply the lovliest family, with their heads firmly screwed on, and very focussed.
It was a joy to see real thought going on here, and to see a truely wonderful family seeing what a move would entail.
Great stuff Guys.

Cool! As usual I don't get to see these until I get home from work but they're my guilty pleasure when they're on! Seeing as we got our visa this morning (oh yes!) then I guess we'll be watching even more carefully than before!
I'll watch out for the hat Bix!

I preferred WDU when Nadia Sawalah interacted with the family, explained the choices and asked them to choose and so on. There's no interaction between the presenter and the families this time is seems and the programme chose which job and part of the city for them whether coast, country, or city they didn't even choose themselves
Love the programme though it's great to watch

I saw WDU today for the first time ever and I was a bit surprised (given some of the complaints on here) that the picture portayed seemed to be quite realistic after the airy fairy fanciful intro.
The show essentially resolved around the fact that the couple would not be able to afford their dream life in Sydney and would have to make big compromises to get anywhere. Prices were converted at a $2 to £1 rate which may even have exaggerated Aussie prices a tad.
The emotional aspects of leaving family were also highlighted. In the end one voted to stay in the UK and the other to go.
Sydney seemed grey and dreary for most of it too....i bet the producers were cursing - hence the reason to cut over to the Nikki Chapman segments on some beach 2500 miles away!
Maybe I just got lucky with a good episode but it mostly seemed reasonable enough....won't be able to find out though....on my way back to Aus today!
