Nothing free on Virgin. For a long haul to Perth (or anywhere over 3 hours) I would choose Qantas - if only for the 'free' food and better seats.

Nice choc muffins on virgin though. Beer is $5 - $6.50 a can.

Depends how much you save on the ticket. If you save 150$, for example, that allows you to have 30 beers for the same price as the QANTAS flight. You can bring your own food, which, if you are organised, is far better than the rubbish you get served by airlines anyway. Only time this doesn't really work is on ten hour plus flights where you need a couple of meals.

Thing I hate about Virgin, is the planes are filthy, no clean up between flights, as the planes shuttle back and forth bris syd about 6 times a day, seats are putrid, last flight we had banana skins, smarties, spit, and a can of drink had been poured over one of our seats and was sticky as hell

Jetstar were intresting we had a 8 hour delay once due to a door falling off, just flew tiger airlines, found them cleaner and quite helpful when our seating was stuffed up.

Qantas service is vastly superior to Virgin, for a flight as long as Bne-Per definitely go Qantas. Also beware the new Virgin baggage rules - unless you advise of baggage beforehand you may end up stung at the aiport.
