09-10 I was the US Dept of State Somali Peacekeeping Program Deputy Program Manager and with my team providing the total support to AMISOM (African Union Mission Somalia), food, fuel, equipment supply, maintenance, movement (via aircraft/shipping)..everything, including ammunition (I am on record as the biggest importer of ammunition into Somalia for 09-10..in line with the Intl Mandate...of course!!) through to MEDEVAC. We ran it out of Uganda with my team forward in Mogadisu. My company had been supporting AMISOM in here since Mar 07, a full 2 weeks before they arrived. The US Dept of State was doing this until the UN could get their act together, and we also started providing support to the TFG military...ever seen what 19 tonnes/mth of camel meat looks like?

Then, at the back end of 12010, as the UN started to come in, and just as my company lost the contract to two other pre-select contractors, I stepped across as an International Consultant and became the UN's (UNSOA) Technical Services Project Manager in here, managing the delivery of their Engineering Projects; accommodation, workplaces, water supply, electrical, airfield maintenance...a lot of stuff.

My contract finishes at the end of this month and I'm heading home; nearly 3yrs in Mogadishu has been enough. Waiting for the e-mail to drop into my in-box for the 'next best thing'. Hopefully, before the end of Feb.

As it's my first day back, perhaps I can be allowed a "bump".

Any more office views?

Well you probably know, but, the dome is going next year as they have the new entertainment complex in the city.

The golf course is going too. The north area is going to be a new footy stadium, the middle section where the clubhouse is will be a new hotel and then the south third will be parkland.

The Casino has just had a massive facelift, extension and rebrand. 'Crown Casino Perth'.

Few new pubs and resturants, and a new gaming floor.

Actually was in one of the new pubs last night. Very nice. Awesome food and all within a 5min walk.

I'm only there for a few weeks more as we wanted to get out before all the construction starts.

It's distracting when I'm working, hearing the golfers cheering long putts .. I'll say that.
