Who said that staying British will solve every problem that comes along? Not talking about renewing the passport here, lets not confuse renewing passport with giving up citizenship.

It absolutely IS stupid to go out of one's way to renounce British citizenship because there is no upside to doing so as far as I can tell. One would have to go out of one's way to give up citizenship, if you can think of upside to that then I am happy to be enlightened.
