Sorry, their Aussie passports have run out and we would have to renew them or get them UK passports anyway, I suppose we will just look at the cheapest option.

Why do you need to get them here? If they have Aussie ones you don't have to say you're moving back permanently, just tell passport control you're on holiday, use their Aussie ones then sort UK ones out when you've arrived. Not worth spending excess money if you don't have to.

We both have expired UK passports which states we are British citizens. They expired in 2000.
