i was just wondering what other people thought as i noticed that some BE members were also members of the site...

is there a clique here...?

What forum was that on?

I think it can be a bit like that sometimes on here. It's a fantastic place for support and information and I'd have been completely lost without it, certainly wouldn't have got through TRA and visa application with no agent if I didn't have the advice from this site.

Sometimes it can appear cliquey but really all people need to do is join in :)

There are definitely times when it can be a bit unfriendly but I'd say the times when people help each other far outweigh the ones where they don't.

Well said:thumbup:

There have been times on this site where its been downright horrible and cliquey, I remember a particular unpleasant time on here when a few members whom I shall not even grace with naming, were very horrible to me.

However, as you say the good far outweighs the bad times which are few and far betweeen.

I consider myself lucky to have met quite a few people from this site and can't ever imagine not coming on here.

There are alot of decent people on here and I liken it to real life, you can't like nor get on with everyone.

BE is my second home :o

Re: BE ...............unfriendly..???

Definitely not unfriendly. People make sarcy comments that others don't appreciate but that's as far as it goes. Yes it can seem cliquey but again, lots of people who have been on here for eons like to be able to have a gas to friends. Even people who've not been on here long do the same and I've seen threads that I've thought ok, they're all friends, that's cool, I'll stay away but it's all a matter of choice. People are too sensitive considering it's a worldwide public forum.

I don't believe it can be beaten for useful info.

It can be a bit unfriendly at times but someone always jumps in and stops it. As for you your posts make me laugh everyday and i have never seen you be unfriendly, just very very funny:)

If you don't shut up I am going to pull your hair and tug on your cheeks, then I am going to form a clique and whisper/giggle each time you walk by.

Then I am going to tie up your shoe laces and stick a sign with 'Pinch my botty' on your back.

So there.

Re: BE ...............unfriendly..???

Think that's one of the biggies, there are a lot of friends on this site. I've made lots through it, met people, speak to people every day, so naturally that will overflow back on to the forum. I guess that can make it appear cliquey in that respect.

Also the fact that a lot of people have been members for a long time, so know a lot about each other, the site, old posters etc which can mean nothing to a new poster and would probably appear a bit confusing and again cliquey. In reality though, it's not really like that. It can be sometimes, but mostly it's not. Like I said before, people are welcomed if they join in usually :)

Cliques are only cliques when you are not a part of them! When you make the bloody effort to be accepted it can be very fulfilling! :)

It wasn't drivel, I agree completely! Not participating is like seeing people who know each other at a bar having a laugh, and not speaking to them because they already have friends and are obviously a 'clique'. (KLEEK, not CLICK btw!)
OK, so when you arrive you don't know anyone - but it's your choice if you want to get to know anyone or not!
I think that on the whole the people on this site are very friendly & welcoming, and there is a lot of good advice to be had. It's just important to ignore anyone who's being an idiot, and not take anything too personally or too much to heart. It is just a forum after all!

I do remember from ages ago that "the lounge" was quite an unpleasant and cliquey place. There seemed to be a group of 8 or 10, mostly US based expats who reckoned the lounge belonged to them, and hounded others who dared post there. I haven't read it in years now, so maybe they've left.

Anyway, I think thats why they created "the barbie" for Oz people.

Its fine in the Oz forums, I don't really notice cliques. If a threads interesting I'll put my tuppence worth in. If not, or its degenerated into a personal conversation between 2 or 3 people, I leave it alone.

I suppose I do focus in on certain posters posts, but thats because I know I'm guaranteed a laugh, as I've known their posting style for years. But it doesn't mean I ignore other posters or don't respond to new interesting posters.

I'm the same with the lounge, I don't post in there, or even go in there really.

I know what you mean, I do that, focus on certain posters posts, but do try and pick up on the new posters if I can.

I don't think it's ever unfriendly. People may say stuff others don't like or two people may hate each other and snipe but I can't think of anyone who is unfriendly or nasty to everyone. Human nature really, you can't get on with everyone but to take offence to a suggested negative comment is pointless because the person who made the comment either forgets they've made it, moves on or wants a reaction.

I posted in the Lounge for several months and had a ball.
Would still post there now if I had the time.

Yes, the majority were from the USA side of the forum but someone had to pick the short straws :D
Anyway there were a few of us Aussies in there to add quality crap too

Bearing in mind i have been on and off this site for years... My most recent return I definitely found BE a little less friendly than before with lots of smart arse comments or just none at all.

All in all though the more I've stuck around the more I've known which comments to ignore and have found my feet here once again.

Lots of advice and help - I like it here!

Quite frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

Well, actually I do if someone has had their dream shattered due to misplaced comments, unthoughtfullness or plain and simple crap from a jerk.

I have always tried to come on here with a positive approach and try to see the good side of people and what they say.

The nature of this media can lead to genuine misunderstandings and misinterpretations so I do try to give the benefit of the doubt.

There are some anal characters about from time to time but that is true of real life.....and this place to a degree is a reflection of that.

Yeah, the lounge clique accepted you.

I think I pissed some of them off at some point (something about saying they were having a circle w**k). And it was all downhill from there...:p

in general no, but there are parts of the forum which can be a bit difficult at times.

the w****ers that do make things unpleasent are short lived and those who make it enjoyable far out weigh those who dont.

if you sit in the corner sipping your drink few if anyone will talk to you,
and yes it will appear cliquey
if on the other hand you make an effort, introduce yourself, ask questions and offer your point of view you will find that its a positive mine of information
yes you get the knobheads with less than helpful replies but at the "party" you`d just ignore them and get on with finding out who were the adults

I saw a thread that was started about an established member on the forum that absolutely slagged them off it was awful.

There wasnt that many who stepped in to stop it despite how long they had been on here.

I think if you have posted many times you are fine but if you are relatively new some of the nasty comments that people give back have stopped people coming back.

I recently have been on the end of some nastily written comment which completely p****d me off as I had been misquoted in the first place and had no right of reply as the thread was closed.
